You may have already made your decision as to whether or not you are going to Kaplan. I am applying there for the September term. I have heard that they aren't looked at as good as a regular college (community or 4 year)...but that people still hire from them. I have also heard that their pass rate for the RN program is 81% and that 89% pass the NCLEX. My feelings...Someone will hire you if you show them you are worth it--not because you graduated from a popular school. If you did decide to go there, let me know how it is going!

Nope, haven't made up my mind yet. I hope I can make up my mind before the application due date coming up. I'm also considering September.

Btw, who doesn't look at them as good? I know people think it's a waste because the credits don't transfer to most schools if you pursue a BSN. But I don't care about that at all. I'm ony concerned if the people who make hiring decisions hold anything against Kaplan grads.

Well...you have until July 14th to really make that decision...as long as you are getting your package together in the mean time. Did you already take the TEAS and Wonderlic? That was my big hurdle but I'm over it and moving forward on the gathering process.

Good luck on your application. Yeah, took the TEAS, took the Wonderlic, and filled out all that paperwork. Haven't started gathering anything yet however because some things would be a waste if I decide to not attend: HS transcripts, background chk, and physical exam, for example. I suppose it couldn't hurt to have college transcripts and letters of reccomendation on hand in case I apply elsewhere though. I think I'll start on that...

Have you spoken to financial aid yet? I haven't. Maybe that's something you do once you've submitted your package?

No, I was told financial aid will contact the students after they find out they are accepted...and that you don't need to do the drug screen and physical until then either. I've been talking with Patty. I am waiting on my letters of rec but other than that, the other things are in the works (transcripts in the mail and work experience written out). Good luck to you as well. Just try and figure out what direction you want to go and then stick with it. That is one of my hangups--I have a hard time pointing myself in one direction, but when I do, I am very determined to get there.

Hello, I am a current Kaplan ADN student. I started in May and came in as a 2nd term student due to having pre-recs done. I had to have my background check and drug screen done by my March 14th deadline, so please confirm this with who ever you are working with. We all know that Kaplans credits do not transfer to all BSN programs but a few will take them, you have to look into it. However, we all take the same NCLEX!

Also, you will not speak with financial aid until you are accepted and have went through orientation.

Good luck with your application process!

Ugh...so my pee test was too diluted... I am currently trying to retest (Kaplan says you are out for a year, but the Nursing Consortium says it is up to the school based on where they do rotations)...so for now, I'm out for a year. But hopefully I will convince someone to let me retest because I absolutely don't do drugs! Thanks for your help Lyndsey.

oh no..... talk to someone... see what they say. I was told that they don't accept those which were too diluted due to "over flushing" the body. hope it all works for you!

yeah...they made that clear (that you are out for a year if you get too diluted). I happen to just drink plenty of water but I'm not trying to hide anything. And the Nursing Consortium (who makes that rule) said it is up to the school. Sometimes the hospital that the school works with is unaccepting of diluted pee tests and so it comes back to not letting the student in. I'll keep pushing along to try and change it. I want into the program and feel like my package is strong.
