san diego kaplan

I am in my 2nd semester at Kaplan, which is the 3rd semester of the program. Like I posted before, I came in as a 2nd semester student. I completed my fundies and nurs 100. I'm not in MS1 and pharm. I have been satisfied with the program, sometimes it does get a little crazy and confusing with the schedules not being given out til the last minute and last minute clinical assignments. but as you know in nursing, it's unpredictable so our clinicals can be changed at last minute. As Jason said, nursing school is nursing school. How can it be easy? It's hard, it's alot of information, and Kaplan is an accelerated program. It is what you put into it. It's alot of lecture time, and ALOT of reading! but do it and you will exceed!!!!

I am a mom of young kids and even work full time. But I know that if I want good grades I have to study and read like crazy, and this is what I do. If you want to be an RN, then do what is best for you. You can wait on a list for 3 years and then go through a 2 year program, or just go through a 20 month program and become an RN.

Hi Guys, went to kaplan today to discuss what they have for options... the guy who showed me around seemed a bit "ditsy" but was nice overall. Concerns I had were the teachers are only RN's and not NP's or have a masters degree for that matter, can they really teach you everything you need to know? He told me the pass rate for Nclex was 80's and I saw online earlier today it was in the 70's. I felt a bit lied to a few times. I asked him why on the website it stated this: * However, the College cannot guarantee a student's eligibility either to take this exam or become certified. A student's eligibility may depend on his or her work experience, completion of high school (or its equivalent), not having a criminal record, meeting other licensure or certification requirements, or the program or College itself having appropriate accreditation or licensure. Externship sites may themselves require a criminal background check or medical examination. And what does that mean, he literally told me that it just means a student cant come to school and after 2 months take the Nclex, they need to finish the program.. um who the **** thinks they can take that test and become an RN without finishing school? I find that hard to belive that he was telling me the truth.. what idiot would think that and what does that statement above really mean? DOes it mean that you can finish this expensive program and then not even be able to take this exam? ANyone know??

hi there.. i am actually looking into this school to enroll to. I have a BSN In Management and looking into getting a Associates in Nursing and or BSN.

I was wondering what are the steps that I need to go through? I am waiting for a call back from Kaplan il see if I can schedule a visit. I am new to the medical field/ schooling so any help will be appreciated.

do you have an advisor yet? ..the person who will explain the program to you..etc etc..just call them again, set an appointment to tour the campus. most likely when you go there, you can take the 12min. sle test right away.. they do that everyday..and u need to get atleast 24or 25 or higher to qualify for the rn program. if not, you can retake it again..not sure how many times though. after u pass, you can then schedule to take the teas exam. you have to pay to take that exam. they have it twice a month at the kaplan campus or you can take it at sdsu. i think they give it every weekday twice a day there..and on saturday as well.. you will need 75%or higher to pass. kaplan also wants u to have some kind of medical background..not sure how much..but it helps..afterwards, they are gonna give u a check list of what you will need for the application process...(background check which is 65dollars, urine test, physical checkup, offical school transcripts, a letter from your job to show proof of medical experience, ..)..thats all i can think of right now.. deadline for the next session is nov. 20th...

thanks i was able to do their test and got a 25 today and did pretty good they said. considering this was my first time taking the test and my bachelors right now is in business. I think i will take the teas test this week to make it into the deadline. I have 3 days to study though. I guess we'll find out this thursday if i can get a 75 or higher. The kaplan advisors helped a lot and their great professionals, i was happy and comfortable in talking to them and they were very very helpful.

I will be graduating from Kaplan on Friday. I am from the last class of the old quarter curriculum so I can't say much about the new curriculum. As far as instructors go, I think I had only 2 that were not MSN and one is no longer there. For the most part the instructors were pretty good.

It really comes down to what you are looking for out of a program. I was looking to get into school and get done. I did what I set out to accomplish. As far as the rep of the schools go, again you as an individual stand on your own merits. One thing I can tell you for sure, from experience, a 3.5 GPA from Kaplan is far more impressive than the same from a CC. I don't know if it is true that some hospitals refuse to hire Kaplan Grads but I do know I have at least one and looking like 2 interviews lined up with major hospitals and I have not graduated or taken the NCLEX yet.
