For All The Burn Nurses

Specialties Burn

Published

Just wanted to say a very big thank you and hello.

I have recently started back to school to get my BSN (a change from accounting).

I am a former burn patient. I am burned 60% of my body. I am also the only survivor of a house fire. It was touch and go there for awhile (they delayed the funeral to see if a casket was needed for me).

But alot has changed for me since 1995.

And more than anything I want to work critical care burns.

That is great! There are surely not enough burn nurses in this country. YOu will be an awsome inspiration to you patients as a burn survivor, and as a professional.

Specializes in MS Home Health.

If you go into that type of nursing you will be an inspiration to your patients, your families, your coworkers and the docs.

You have inspired me already,

Wow, Kyriaka!

Glad you made it. What an inspiring post. All the best of luck and success to you.

This is where I was.

Talk about a great burn center.

The worst part are the "baths" only made easier by the elderly women who sing gospel music while they do it.

I dont remember much of ICU (of course) but I do remember on the regular floor a man down the hall burned 90%. He made a castle out of the protein drinks. Yucky. Get some better flavors! Please!

Specializes in burn mostly....

that is the best. you will be able to relate to your patients on a level that i, and i say this in pure honesty, that i hope i will never have to. i have read books written by people that have experienced burns, and i know that there is no way i can truly understand. i always want to know what my patients remember, and what i can do or could have done to make things better. it will be a blessing to have you on the burn team.
