New Grad in need of advice on getting a hospital job

I graduated earlier this year and have been unable to get a hospital job. I have applied several times to different locations and haven't had one interview. I keep being told we are not accepting new grads at this time. I am located in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia, does anyone have any suggestions? I don't know what I am doing wrong, I have some friends in the same situation, others have been lucky following well-placed preceptorships from school. I thought there was a nursing shortage, whats going on?
