Nursing Program @Grand Canyon University

by Kabin

Anyone know if the GCU nursing program is ok? Good teachers? Accredited?

I know it's expensive and they were financially strapped as of Jan '04, but supposedly that's behind them.

I've heard it is a good school. But so are all the other community colleges at just a fraction of the cost. If you really want your BS degree consider going to a community college and then once you graduate and get a job, have your employer pay for your BS degree.

Thanks for the feedback! I imagine there aren't many GCU grads nor current students as the program is relatively small. My situation is a bit complicated as I have a BS degree and have been looking for any BS to BSN accelerated programs in the valley. ASU's accelerated BSN program would be good, but they aren't very responsive to emails and have so many requirements that I could drop the ball somewhere and that gives me the willies. GCU seems far more down to earth and so I'm thinking I'll apply to both programs and see how it goes.

Yes I did. GCU is a caring environment but back then there were a few growing pains. I was there for one week and decided to take my chances at ASU and save some serious $ on tuition.

I think it's important to remember that GCU's BSN program isn't just an accredited nursing program - it's a particular worldview, too. If GCU's worldview matches with one's own worldview, ok. I personally do not want any particular religious belief system co-mingling with my nursing education. I think it is more of a consideration with their traditional BSN rather than the RN-BSN.

As I recall BSN students had to take two religious studies courses. And there was praying after group gatherings and class sessions. They also had mandatory religious meetings every week or so. This was all up in the air while I was there but they eventually decided nontraditional accelerated programs and master programs could be exempted.
