I failed the NET =( Heard they are changing it soon?

Ugh! I am so upset at myself. I was planning on turning in my LPN application this Friday. So I waited until the last minute to take my NET so I could cram more studying in.
Well the first section they tested on was Math and I was super nervous. All the math questions were pretty easy 5th grade level.. but I am a SLOW test taker and still rusty a bit on my math. I had like 10 questions left when the time was up and the computer moved me to the next section.
Now I wish I would of just guessed real quick on all 10 and I probably would of passed (barely).

I scored 80% on reading and well on everything else though. Now I have to wait 60 days which means I have to wait until next spring to apply for Fall 2010

Also the lady told me they might change the NET test within the next 60 days? UGH! If anything I hope they give more time for the Math!! My guess is they might might it harder?

Oh shoot. I'm sorry to hear that

I also had several left on the math section when I ran out of time. I didn't fail the math section, but I might as well have for the program I'm trying to get into. I had enough time on the reading, but got a 67, I think? Terrible. So I will be retaking as well.

I wonder what they could be changing about the NET? I've also taken the TEAS and did wonderfully on the reading and the math and had plenty of time for each. I thought the TEAS was much more reasonable.

Is there another LPN program you could apply to that has a slightly later application deadline?

Hi Hausfrau,

I was told yesterday that the nursing department is thinking about switching to the TEAS test. The lady at the NET test center said they are expecting notification by the nursing department any day now, but she also said that it would not switch until next February. It seems to me that any final decisions in this matter are still a bit up in the air.

I'm sorry that you have to retake the test. Hang in there!! I'm hoping that we won't have to redo the testing if we've already taken the test and are on the wait list for the RN program. Hopefully the new testing exams won't affect those who've already taken the NET.

Hi Hausfrau

I also failed the NET exam in March and my college changed the exam to NLN which i did in Sept 09. NLN is difficult than NET, it has more questions and it also physics questions.

Coffee-

I think I remember physics questions on the TEAS as well, but they really don't "count". The admin at the school where I took the TEAS took a look at my dreadful physics score and said he was surprised I did so well and that they don't even look at that (or the chem for and ADN).

The TEAS is just like the NET, without the "stress" questions and a few other silly sections. I felt the reading and grammar comp was a lot more indicative of your knowledge on those subjects, were the NET was so vague, it almost renders it irrelevant.

Of course, I tanked the NET reading comp, so maybe that's just bitterness talking

Aw, hang in there! The NET is difficult, the reading comp was extremely difficult for me, thankfully I got a 73 on that section, but it wasn't good enough for me to get into ASU's BSN program. Unfortunately, that means that I get to take it again for the next advancement cycle, the Summer 2010 cycle...

However, ASU is getting rid of the NET as well (but for the Fall 2010 cycle), and they're going to switch to either the TEAS or HESI (they haven't decided yet). It seems like a LOT of schools are getting rid of the NET because it doesn't accurately gauge student's abilities. Perhaps that is what your school is doing?

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you so that whatever they do, it will be easier!

Hausfrau I'm sorry to hear that you did not pass the NET test.
I took it today and failed the reading comprehension. I was also told that they were doing away with the NET test at the MCCCD schools as well. It took some phone calls, but I found out that they may be switching to the TEAS test.
I am frustrated as I should be dedicating my 60 day waiting period to studying for a test I should be able to retake in January, except the problem seems to be that I don't know what test that will be; the NET (which I have the study guide for) or the TEAS, which sounds to me, is more difficult. Is this really fair?
Does anyone have any advice on how I should proceed to prepare for a test I need to take in January while not knowing which test it will be?
Again, Hausfrau, I'm sorry for your test results... I sounds like we are in the same situation.

azsummer -

Earlier in this thread, someone mentioned that MCCC might know in the next few days how or to what the NET will change. My advice is to sit tight, call back in a week or so, and see what they say. For what it's worth, I have taken both and felt the TEAS was very fair in their grading and had realistic expectations for their reading comp. I felt the NET was much harder than the TEAS with more strict time constraints. I had plenty of time to finish the TEAS, but ran out of time with the NET.

That is good advice. Thanks. I took the test yesterday and was really upset. I'm feeling better today and can see things more clearly. I thought I was doing well on the reading comp. part but I lost track of time and had 10 questions to answer before time was up. arghh! I'm glad to hear the TEAS seems more reasonable.
I'll give MCCCD a week or so before I call them again for some anwers.
Thanks again!
