    Gwenith has a great collection of information in her "stickies" section. I do know the govt are desperate to employ nurses. I think if you have a look at the Australian Embassy sites, and see your Australian embassy in your country they should be able to give you quite a bit of information.

    Things may be different soon with a change in government as well,what with Labor winning the election on Nov 24th. Also, each state has its own registration board. Though they promise us that in 2008 we may only need one registration to work all over Australia instead of one for each state.
