My nursing journey (hopefully) begins! OR: Has anyone else done the UTAS fast track?

Hello everyone!

After ten years of wondering what might have been if I had pursued what I thought was my career ambition when I was in high school I am finally getting down to it and looking into the nursing schools available in Australia.
Though originally from Perth I'm aiming for a Sydney school because of friends offering a great living situation there, and I stumbled across the UTAS two year fast track course (available in Rozelle and Darlinghurst at St. Vincent's and Mater Health). The more I read about it, the more I think I'd fall all over myself to get a place.

To secure a position in the course I have to write a supporting letter. I can outline my education background and my working background. Unfortunately I don't have a lot of "hands-on" experience of which to speak, but I have hopes to complete my first aid certificate and a 30 hour beginner phlebotomy course before the applications close in late September.

Does anyone have any tips for me on writing this sort of "selling yourself" introduction to who you are and why you want to be a nurse? Any former UTAS students out there with further info? I have tried to devour everything the UTAS site will serve me!

Cheerio and all the best,
Danielle
