How can I become a mental health nurse in Perth

Hi everyone,

I just finished my BSN conversion course in Perth, I have a few years of working experience in China as a surgical nurse. Now it is the time to make a dicison if I should go on general nursing or start a speciality. Actually, I am very interested in becoming a mental health nurse. It is a challenging job.

Could anyone give me some suggestions about how to become a mental health nurse? I know some big hospitals like Graylands or Fremental offering Mental health graduate program? Do I have to attend it or can I apply for a mental health position directly from mental health services? Curtin university runs a one year course of Registered Mental Health Nurse, that sounds a good program. But I am an oversea student and I don't think I can afford full time studying for another year.

I really appreciate it if you could give me some suggestions?

Lillian
