G'day,
You may find POW offers private health insurance to it's staff at a corporate rate. Send an email to them and find out.

if you are from scotland you should be entitled to reciprcol medicare rights. this is pretty much free public health care as far as I can see for Australian citizans and those from countries in the reciprocol agreement. Check it out but I'm 90% sure you should be covered. Has the POW sent you a form stating that you have to get health insurance?...... Check the fine print on that one, it should have something about reprociprcol rights on it. If not check ou iSelect.au which is a comparison website. Also be warned it will be fairly high as we are classed as overseas vistors and get burned with high premiums!
I wish I had done the hard work and got my UK passpsort but easier to get my Irish one!!!
Good luck and say hi to Randwick and Coogee beach for me!! Both of those suburbs are full of Irish english and scots!!! I had a brilliant time in sydney

Hi I am an Australian woman who has had type 1 all her life. My private insurance is MBF or Medical Benefits Fund. It has been good for me, even paying for all of my insulin pump. Cathy

Even with private insurance, the amount that you pay is minimal compared to the costs covered. I think it's perfectly fair that people wanting to go and work in Australia should pay for their own healthcare. Even Australian residents are penalized in their tax payments if earn enough and don't take out private cover to supplement Medicare.
