Hi, I have also applied to do nursing at ACU North Sydney next year, but have my first preference at UTS. Good luck!

No, unfortunately and definately not coming in from school. Am 35, so have been working for a long time, but have always wanted to do something more. Started teaching at ACU Strathfield this year, but hoping to change to nursing next year. Just think that I will be able to give more as a nurse. Big decision to make, but very exciting too.

That is great. We must keep in touch. Will you do fulltime or parttime. What is the teaching degree at Strathfield like? My daughter is looking at it for 2011. When will you know whether you are changing or not? Cathy

Will go full time I think.

Teaching at Strathfield is really good - the teachers are excellent and the course is very comprehensive. Also prac starts straight away, which is great as it is the only way that you can be sure whether or not you will really like teaching itself or not.

The only reason I am hoping to change is because I have always wanted to do either teaching or nursing, but just feel that I could give more of myself in nursing. Teaching seems to be very restricted in terms of the curriculum and the hours and holidays are not all that they would appear to be, ie. they seem almost completely taken up with work...

Seems insane that I am still unsure what I want to do at my age, but at least there is a chance to change and grow in this day and age. We are quite lucky really.

Def have to keep in touch though.

Hi Rob, yes I agree. This is the best time to start a new career..Having raised a family and been through a lot of being a patient I know that this is what I want to do..my ony small doubt is whether I would be able to manage it mindwise...I know practically I can do it as I am actually nursing now..well we'll see..I'm waiting for mid November to roll around. I'm at UTS at the moment. We had a lot of students (and staff) transfer to us from ACU after the drama that went down a few months back (beginning of the year, maybe?) when a lot (a good portion) of ACU students couldn't get registered upon graduation due to flaws in the program and it's management. I had an ex-ACU tutor last semester who said the course was poorly run and it wasn't fair on the students. I also had a friend from school at ACU who said that clinicals were impossible - really poorly organised and run. She transfered out to UWS. That said, it's all second hand information, I've only heard it from others.

The campus at North Sydney is lovely. Wayyy better than UTS!

I don't know much about it. Haven't heard any of that info. I do know a couple of people doing nursing there who love it. I also know one girl at Notre Dame, who is loving her uni. The whole course has changed from 2010. So hopefully any flaws were picked up. I did hear it was more practical whereas UTS was more theoretical.

Wow! That certainly makes the decision a lot harder...

I have heard that UTS is the better course, but I guess it just depends on the individual.

Fingers crossed though that we get in somewhere. At least that way if things don't work out or we find the course does not suit us, we may be able to transfer.
