Who got in?!?! I did! Everyone excited? I have lecture t/th 8-11am & my clinicals mondays. Unsupervised practice 12-4pm. Anybody have the same? Whooooo (:

Ok, I have all that. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything. Did you buy the optional calculation book? I was told by a second year student that I wouldn't need it. Hope she was right.

I did buy the optional med calculation book. I wanted to have it for my own reference.

@Mrs.Mumz, Yay! I have the same except my unsupervised is on tuesdays, not thursdays. But, fun! I'm excited someone else has the same schedule as me!

Who did you have for clinical today? Did you like it? I thought it was pretty cool and they were really good teachers. They actually want to help which is awesome. lol. :)

i had ((moderator edit of name - please do not name names of individuals in your program per tos). i liked it! i'm wondering, though, did your teacher go over how checkoffs were going to go? like do we walk in, state our 6 rights, then just get into it? like take the temp, do pulse & respirations, and lastly bp?

for example, i walk in, set my checkoff sheet in front of the instructors, say "the six rights of procedures are..." then after i say right to clean hands, i say "i am now washing my hands. good morning, my name is ___ and i am going to be your nurse today. i am going to take your vital signs and we're going to start with taking your oral temperature" "have you recently ate or drank anything? what about smoking or exercise?" no? *turns thermometer on, protective sheath, "if you could keep this under your tongue for me please" "okay, it looks like you are 98.5 degrees f!"

"now let's take your pulse, if you could just give me your arm please" *reaches for arm, supports with opposite hand, takes pulse 30 sec" "okay, it looks like you are 85 b/m"

can we do respirations at the same time as pulse? like keep holding their pulse and check their breathing? or do we have to seperate it?

either way, check respirations. 18 breaths/min

"alrighty, i need to get your bp and then we'll be done!" supports arm at heart level (on table). palpates brachial artery, puts cuff on arm, lining it up with the artery. closes bp cuff valve. feels radial pulse, pumps up cuff 30 lines over when radial pulse stopped. puts steth on brachial artery, slowly releases valve, listening artery's beats to indicate systolic and diastolic. "okay, it looks like you are 120/80" done.

basically, we're just role playing? i just want to know a better idea the structure of the checkoff.

i've really enjoyed everything so far.

haha..i had (moderator edit of name - please do not name names of individuals in your program per tos) as well. :) and yes that sounds really good. did you not get to do the pretend check off? i did it and got everything right the first time and did exactly like you explained. just role play being the actual nurse. :nurse: and for the respirations she told me to tell them, "ok, now i'm going to check your respiration rate. can you put your hand on your chest (and show them how with you hand on you). ok, i'm going to put my hand on your hand if that's ok." then you just put your palm on there hand and count for 30 sec. easy. :)

We had to go to the meeting ):

Well, awesome! I just wanted to make sure I had everything right!

Wow guys we only have one more exam and check off and we'll be done for 6 weeks. This summer program has been intense but fun, I've enjoyed it. I'm saying a prayer that we all pass med check offs on the first try. :)

Indeed. One test and one med check off left!

I'm pretty excited! BUT extremely ready to have a tiny summer break from school. Lol.

I plan on not doing ANYTHING for the next month (:

Congratulations to everyone who has completed our first course--Nursing Fundamentals--and an official welcome to nursing school!! :yeah: I believe that most would agree that these past few weeks were stressful, but we learned so much and met so many great people. For those who did not make it, I wish them well in their endeavors and encourage them to not give up on their dreams. Reapply and try again. I look forward to seeing everyone in the Fall....

Don't forget to order your uniforms and turn in your VA packet....

Enjoy your break and once again :ancong!:
