Anyone from Arkansas doing distance training with Excelsior College?

Specializes in Education, FP, LNC, Forensics, ED, OB.

hello, dbowens02,

i know of a couple who are. one is a paramedic attending ec.

you are currently attending or thinking about it?

Yes, I have been accepted. I only have a few prereqs left. I have been reading some of the posts. It is kind of disheartening the negetive things people say about EC. Let me know how to get in contact with the people who are attending from Arkansas. I want to be a Family APN in the future.

Thanks Donna

I don't live in Arkansas now, but did. I got my RN from EC. I had been a LPN for years and started on my RN at Uof Ark and then moved. I can not stand sitting in a class and have a teacher burb a book to me. I got my RN in 9 months. I think it was great as I wanted to get my RN quickly and most of the fast track programs are not fast. I think any school is what you make of it and how you apply yourself. I have gone from a staff nurse to DON. My education at EC has served me well.

I just finished my 7 exams, and the last of my prereqs. I live in NLR, AR. I only have the CPNE left. I haven't got a date set yet, but will take it in Plano, TX.

Denise

I got my RN in 9 months.

I don't see how this is humanly possible. I enrolled with only 1 prerequisite and NC 3-7 + the CPNE to take. I took an average of two tests per month and with the mandatory waits by Excelsior (longest one being the waiting period for the CPNE) it has taken me 17 months from enrollment to NCLEX.

Having been born and raised in Conway, I sometimes feel the desire to return to my home state. I am hoping to make it back to Arkansas at least long enough to attend UCA to become a FNP.

Specializes in OB, M/S, HH, Medical Imaging RN.

I finished 4 years ago and the changes have been phenominal ! The thing that helped me the most was this website: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/rnstudygroup/?yguid=83821276

I'm not from Arkansas but our states are neighbors. Good Luck!

When I attended there was a paramedic who passed all nursing classes in 32 days and the rest the following month. He went from paramedic to RN in less than 5 months including CPNE & NCLEX ! Truely amazing! If I remember correctly his name was Dan and we called him "Dan the Man" he was headed for NP which by now I'm sure he has. That was over 4 years ago, heck he could be a doc by now!

I'm not amazed as to how he could get through the material so fast, I'm amazed how he got through it so fast on Excelsior's schedule. I hammered them for three months before I even got a date for the CPNE, and then had to wait nearly 6 months later to take the stupid thing.

As far as passing the nursing classes in 32 days...I do't see how this could be done, either, unless he paid for every test at one time and scheduled them that way.

When I went it was Regents College and they're rules were different. Excelsior has become much stricter. Back then you could schedule and take your CPNE after you completed just the nursing courses. (Differences A,B and C and I don't remember the name of the rest) He took all the rest of the classes while waiting to take the CPNE. We used to had to take the tests by paper and # 2 pencil and fill in the dots. There were test dates with 100 seats and you just showed up and if you got in you took it, if not you had to try again on another date. We paid when we took the test. You're lucky most of it has changed for the best! Good Luck.

Specializes in Trauma Team.

I am a current AZ and NREMT-Paramedic looking to bridge to my RN as fast as I can as well, I am a few prereqs and I am curious (maybe a little overwhelmed) with the Idea of EC online. Any thoughts ? I work in a Level 1 trauma center as a Paramedic and we are also a teaching hospital so I have resources too !

Hello everyone,

I am looking for someone to take on the excelsior rn program journey with me. Is there anyone out there who has gone this route? I'm a Registered Respiratory Therapist. I'm starting in 2 weeks.
