by checker1981 Oct 5, '09One of my friends told me that Gateways nursing program is having some issues. Here is the issue: Students are being failed by instructors who are actually passing the test. They will take a test and answer the questions then the instructors mark correct answers as being incorrect. The students bring their test back to the instructor with proof that they are correct and the instructor refuses to fix their grade.
According to my friend (I don't attend this college yet) they have gone to the college president and even the state board of nursing. I checked the websites and do not see this listed, has anyone heard this?
Worst case scenario, they lose accreditation from the state board.

- Oct 5, '09 by blondielocksWow, that is crazy. I am moving to AZ in January and I am starting online classes at Rio Salado on October 26th (Chem 130, I'm nervous!) I hope that either this is not true (for the student's sake) or that if it is then someone needs to make it right . :stone

- Oct 5, '09 by checker1981I don't want to pick that program if it is true. But I don't see any information other then word of mouth. I think I am going to call the state board and ask them, when I hear something I will keep you posted.
- Oct 7, '09 by TinkRN8I am currently in block 1 at Gateway, and while there are some issues (as there are with any nursing program), I don't see this going on at all. In fact on our 2nd quiz this very issue came up. The scantron marked an answer incorrectly. The instructor made the correction immediately.OCD_Mom likes this.

- Oct 7, '09 by checker1981Quote from chihmom8What is your schedule like at Gateway? Like how many hours of class, what time does class start, how many days a week. And what is the clinical schedule looking like. I think I am getting in this next semester based on my time stamp and I am curious because of my work schedule.I am currently in block 1 at Gateway, and while there are some issues (as there are with any nursing program), I don't see this going on at all. All the instructors go above and beyond when dealing with students and will do just about anything to help you suceed. Not sure of the source of this information, but it should be verified. Even if it were an isolated incident, I would guess there was more to the story than was given. One of my friends told me that Gateways nursing program is having some issues. I love GWCC and I have not had any issues with any instructors, whether lecture or clinical. The program is what you make of it, in my opinion. I know students who struggle to make it, but ultimately it helps them in their critical thinking skills. Gateway has the highest NCLEX pass rate, so the program is not easy...but it prepares you for the real world.OCD_Mom likes this. -
- Oct 11, '09 by qaqueenI graduated from the RN program at Gateway in June. Sounds to me like a disgruntled students. Don't get me wrong, occasionally mistakes were made, but they were always corrected. There were times when I disagreed with an instructor, but I do not believe any of the instructors EVER spitefully failed anyone.OCD_Mom likes this.
