What type of nurse does everyone want to eventually end up being?

Just wondering where does everyone want to end up? Right now I work at a teaching level one trauma hospital in tucson. I work on a intermediate care floor, which is a step down. I want to end up as a trauma ICU nurse, or anywhere in the ICU except neuro! Maybe flight nursing down the road. I want to go back to Flagstaff cause I'm ready to pick a place to call home and settle. Tucson has too many people and no outdoors except for Mt. Lemmon.

At this point in time, my goal is L&D or something along the lines. But I may find something that interests me more in nursing school.

I thought it would be ICU. I'm now in the PACU and loving it...if you had asked me a year ago whether I'd wind up in the PACU I would have said "You're crazy!" Seems to me that the key to happiness in Nursing is to pick the right niche.

Hi, I haven't begun my journey as yet but when i do my goal is work in a clinical facility doing research. I currently work in a pre-clinical setting but i'm more interested in the clinical side of drug development. However, i think i would also be interested in working in a neonatal unit or even in plastic surgery. I'm curious to see where i'll eventually end up.

Dhammo01, I see that you're interested in moving back to Flagstaff. I graduated from NAU but with a non nursing degree. Flagstaff seems too small for me and there weren't enough job opportunities there so i left after graduation. But otherwise, it's a great town. Good luck.

I've always been into forensics and the such, so when i found out about sexual assault nurses and forensic nursing i was excited. hopefully by the time i graduate the field will have grown because this is my true passion! i would also love to work in plastic surgery.

Ya, I grew up around there. I'm just tired of the bigger cities. I really like FLagstaff. I always have.

i would love to start off on the same type of floor as you, dhammo1...i guess for a year or so to get my skills down. Then i'd like to be in the ICU. I've also been thinking about ER && Ortho down the road as well..who knows. I start Nursing school in January. My mind could change during the course of school, but i'm certain i want to be in the ICU :D

CRNA all the way!!!

Hospice.....:nurse:

Critical Care Nursing all the way! Dont care what level I start at the goal is to just keep adding to my skills! I kinda want to eventually get into CRNA but we will see how things go?

Specializes in retail NP.

i'm tired of floor nursing, even in a critical care setting. i want to switch to the OR at some cushy outpt surgicenter. No weekends, no holidays, and minimal call.

working on the floor just isn't my gig.

David,

What is stopping you from applying to FMC if you want to move back to Flag? I work at FMC now as an extern and graduate in Dec. and am beginning their new grad program for January. If you have at least 1 year of experience down at Tuscon then you don't have to apply as a new grad (that is my understanding from HR). FMC is a level one trauma center and has a great critical care training program (from what I have heard from people who did it). Good luck.
