I'm not in UA's program but at ASU for nursing school the drug test is mostly screened by the clinical placement sites. Therefore it may be the hospitals that UA works with that really determine the policy. I'm not too sure what the law is associated with working as a nurse and being a medical marijuana card holder.

This is likely the major roadblock. You cannot get a clinical placement with a positive drug test. Even in states where marijuana is legal, medical personnel cannot use it for even medicinal purposes. It all comes back to the fact that marijuana is still set as a schedule 1 drug and is federally illegal. it is kind of ironic because we actually had a lecture in pharmacology about the various known medical benefits of marijuana. If there is a workaround with testing later for clinical placement then I would say you have a chance. Unfortunately in this case the CON just can't set their own policy but they need to be in compliance with all the clinical sites / hospitals in the area. There is no sense in admitting a student if they can't get them into clinical sites. Hopefully they can make this test disappear and retest later..... Good luck!

I talked to the nursing advisor. She said that the policy is in flux and there is no real way to tell what will happen. She said that hopefully I will be able to retest during or at the beginning of the program but she really didn't have a clear answer, she also said that normally the policy is to go with the most strict policy of the clinics, which is any positive on a drug test means exclusion from the program.

She was really understanding and nice but I really don't know where I stand in all of this.

LWeeks, I'm going to DM you and give you my number, I would love to talk to you and maybe we can set up a meeting for coffee or something if your available or feel comfortable doing that.

If anyone else is in the same situation and would like to talk about it more please DM me.
Just FYI, I think I read earlier that one of you are using it because of cancer. If it is for nausea / vomiting check into Marinol. It is a legal FDA approved drug and with that you could turn it in as a prescription with the urinalysis. I work on an oncology floor and we give it out quite often to our patients.

Hi all! I'm thinking of applying to this program but have a question I was hoping someone could help me with- Can your prereqs be taken online? I still need to take the two Chem classes, nutrition, & human development. I'm from CA so I'm worried if I take those here at a CC they won't transfer over. Is anyone else in the program from CA or out of state that was accepted?
Congrats to everyone on all the acceptances and good luck! Thanks in advance for your help!

I would recommend just calling the school or emailing the main email to ask. They were super helpful when I was first starting to make sure all my classes were okay. I'm sure you could send them the course description prior to taking the class to get confirmation from them.

For those of you who applied from out of state, how did you go about scheduling your HESI exam?
