Hi. I'm an RN moving from NY to Surprise, AZ in December. I'd appreciate any information on the best hospitals to work for. So far, been interviewed by St. Joseph's and working on an interview for JCL Deer Valley, PACU. Is JCL... Read More

While the others are correct...those places are closer however the Abrazo hospitals are offering a HUGE SIGN ON BONUS! Check them out...

Try Maryvale, gets a horrible and SOOO Undeserved..I've seen the place and the people are awesome...great management changes recently...

Also Arrowhead and PV Hospitals...all good choices...Try Maryvale first...you might see me!
I've worked at 2 Abrazo facilities (in the ED) 5:1 ratios...for profit...no thanks

St Joes 3:1 in the ER...Their IR department is tops in Phx

    Sun Health may underpay you...

I'd be leery of a HUGE sign-on bonus. Some hospitals offer such a bonus because they can't keep people and have a huge turn-around ..... for a reason. So, I'd at least ask about their turn-around. A big sign-on bonus is a HUGE HUGE red flag to me .... to stay away. But that's just me.

    Good luck to you!

    Hi Everyone,
I am new to Allnurses for a reason, I will be relocating, as well, to Az in the near future and have 18 years as a nurse in critical care among other areas. My family lives in Az and left me out here all alone on the Beast Coast (kidding kidding!). What are the starting salaries, mamma, for my years of experience and if anyone else can tell me, what will I have to do to change my license etc. No doubt, I will want to do ICU nursing when I get there.
Thanks and it's really great to be here!

    Hi Coelia, welcome to allnurses!!

A ton of hospitals here in the valley would pick you up in a heartbeat for all that experience you have!! If I were you, I would definitely call around to nurse recruiters and get more information, including starting pay for a nurse with your experience.

Do you know where you'll be relocating to? I could give you a number of names of hospitals around here that you could look into, but it'd be easier to narrow it down with hospitals that will be close to where you'll be living.

As far as changing your license, go to here: http://www.azbn.gov/Applications.asp
Click on RN Application by Endorsement and that should be the application you need to fill out. It will tell you about the fees and everything else you need to do, also. If you have any trouble, just contact them and they should be able to tell you what you need to do.

    Good luck!

WOW, I haven't even graduated yet, but the higher sign on I see offered, the more scared I get. Maybe that is unfounded, but still...... That would really be great though if I could break into a good environment AND make 15 grand. Is it really possible!??? Thanks for typing that for us!

Well, both Arrowhead and Paradise Valley called me today for interviews! I will let you know I know Arrowhead is a good atmosphere for the unit I applied for - I did my preceptorship there. :blushkiss

Working a tele unit on nights with 6 patients, 1 CNA/Tech for 32 patients (they promise to lower it down to 28:1) and no unit secretary is not fun or easy. It is doing total patient care the far majority of times. Look before you leap...

Thanks for the warning Andy. I realize that. I work ICU currently and it is pretty rough where I am right now. No unit clerk, no nursing assistant, very high acuity patients, short staffed, and burned out nurses that have worked at the same place for 20 - 30 years. Have plenty of vacation time, but it is like pulling out teeth to get time off.

I think I'm leaning towards St. Joseph's. What about Maricopa Medical Center?? Who pays the highest? Highest relocation pay?

Anyone know what the commute time is from Surprise to St. Joseph's?

    Appreciate all of your responses
