U.S.A. Arizona

I am hoping to relocate to Phoenix area and am trying to determine what average base hourly rate might be for a RN with BSN and 5 years of experience might be.

There are lots of posts about salaries for new grads ($27-28 HR) but nothing for experienced RNs.

Any feedback appreciated via this thread or private message.

What specialty? Some pay more than others.

I've done med-onc, cardiovascular, progressive care, infusion nursing.

I would say at least mid-30's/hour. Keep in mind the cost of living in AZ is pretty cheap.

I recently learned that base rate for 20 years longevity in critical care of a Phx-area hospital network is $40/hr. Other interesting details:

Anyone have any info on pay range for 9 years experience combination of ER Level I and Level 2 trauma experience and critical care?

I know it likely doesn't make a difference but I have my BSN and CEN as well...

I'm in California but sometimes I'd like to be closer to my dad and stepmom, it'd be nice for the grandkids to see their grandparents more than once a year. I'm just not sure I can stomach the paycut when my mortgage is decent

A friend of mine has 9yrs, currently works prison nursing, not sure what her specialties are, but she's making ~$35/hr. I don't know where you are in CA, but take into account how much equity you have on your home...? If you have $200+ equity, which many people do in CA, then you could probably pay cash for a house out here. Depends what your parameters are for a home, of course, and what area of AZ you're looking at? For example, west valley homes ... decent size 4 bed/3 bath with a pool would be about $250K.

Hence your $35/hr would go a lot further ..... apart from in summer when the AC bill hits! LOL

10 years experience. Critical Care. $42.00 w/ BSN.

Thanks for the answers. I only have 120k equity in my house. I only bought a few years ago. And a car payment and student loans. I'm able to pay all the bills and have hubby stay at home. I make over 70$ hourly. I may just keep trucking on working OT to pay things off.

My family lives in prescott which is more expensive unfortunately.

How are ratios in Arizona? Do they try to keep things reasonable?

When I do days staffing at my hospital, we keep MS, Obs, Tele at 3-4:1. I've never seen ICU go above 2:1. L&D I've seen at max 3:1, with one of those close to delivery or already delivered and awaiting a move to couplet care. ER I have no clue, because they do their own staffing. If I remember correctly, CA is unionized, so you have mandated ratios. AZ is not, so things can go higher. My hospital uses a lot of CNAs/PCAs and we also have a transport department as well.

AZ ED ratio 4:1 for higher acuity patients and 5:1 for everything else. I make $33/hr. as ASN (recently completed my BSN) with 4 years ED experience, total of 7 years RN experience and 17 years of LPN experience. Good luck!
