PC Bio 201 Online

U.S.A. Arizona

Published

HI! I was wondering has anyone ever taken Bio 201 online at Phoenix College? I just signed up for it...well part of it anyway, still waiting to get into the lecture portion. Anyway I was thinking maybe I should take the lab portion on campus because I am not sure how it will work out for me on the computer. I know they use ADAM but.....Any feedback on the class would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to PM me also.

Thanks in advance

Julie

***UPDATE***

Well I am in the class (completely!) and was wondering if anyone else was. I could use a study partner. Thanks to everyone who PM me.

I took a biology course online and ended up having to drop it because it was very difficuly. I don't think I would have been able to do bio201 online, but everyone learns differently. I enjoyed looking at actual models of all the muscles, and bones... intead of just 1D pictures in a book or online.

Good luck!

I took Bio 201 and 202 for Phoenix College online. I spent every saturday probably 5-8 hours working on these courses.. I passed both with a high C .. and there were sometimes I didnt apply myself as I should have. I had a B in 201 and didnt study for the final and that took me to a high C... I took 202 in the summer it was rough because it was a summer class.. but they both just persistance... I took 201 at Glendale college in class the first time and dropped cause I was failing., It was much harder in person.

So is the midterm and final just made up of essay questions or other types of questions? Did you feel like you really learned anything online? Were your grades just based off those two or other factors? I have taken many online classes but things that are easy for me to retain like English or Humanities or Psych so I guess Bio just seems a bit intimidating to me. I heard my instructor was good so I am excited about that. Any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks

Julie

The grades were based off of I believe there were 4 test and 2 proctor exams you had to go in and take at the college. No notes allowed for those. So you did need to learn what you read and studied. The exams were timed I believe you got 60 minutes to take the test so you needed to have your notes and be prepared to answer those questions for the at home tests. It was a rough course .. I just found online to be good because I could spend a Saturday reviewing it all . I did create outlines and that is what I felt to be helpful. When I took it at Glendale Community college we dissected a cat and he gave a blank piece of paper and said now label this.. WHAT !?! Online you worked with the ADAM cd.. and when you took the test you had to name what the body part or muscle was that was listed. So you still need to put alot into the course. 201 and 202 are the hardest courses you will take for the pre reqs.

Its about discipline. You cant just expect its going to be easy. It will take time and focus.. but You can do it.. and at your own pace rather than in class a few hours here and there.

Did you have a textbook? He mentioned an e-Text and other digital material needed but he would give us this info on ordering from the manufacturer closer to the start date but if I can get it at school cheaper or someone where else that would be helpful. He was kinded promoting the manufacturer so I just wanted to make sure I get more bang for my buck so to speak. I thought you just needed a text book and ADAM....guess not.

Thanks

Julie

well that is all I used was the textbook and it came with 12 CD's I think and the ADAM cd was free you had to pick it up in the library.

Yes I paid $204 for my A & P book- it was new.. at the college.. I kept that book and my nutrition book I tought they might be helpful someday,, and they changed books the next semester so I wouldnt get anything for it anyways.

check out what text you need and go to EBAY or Amazon and find it probably cheaper. I get alot of my books off those 2 sites.
