Hi bettyboop,

When i say paperwork, am just beginning my immigration applications. I have passed NCLEX and have AZ RN licensure. Did you mean you've been waiting for 5 yrs for work permit? Where are you currently working? Are you from the UK? If i have to wait for a work permit for 5 years then maybe i ll be better off trying Canada or somewhere else. I need to get out of here as soon as i can. I am a regular visitor of Phoenix as my husband is a student in Embry Riddle, thats why i have to relocate. Its tough for us to live in separate worlds and am not prepared to wait for 5 years. Any advise you can give me. I appreciate your responses and thank you for taking your time to read my threads.

Hi Shortie!

How nice to meet a fellow European! I moved to Arizona in 2006, however I didn't go through the work visa. My husband is from Arizona, so that's how I got here.

I worked on PCCU at JCL myself for 6 months last year, as a PCT. Everyone's right about the area, but you can always call security and get someone to walk you to your car. PCCU is probably the best unit of the hospital, they're a really close group of people. However, the workload is heavy. RN's have 4 patients, most of them post CABG, AMI, or post cath. They are good about having PCT's and have at least 2 every day. However, most days they have 3 and they take care of your baths, vital signs, AccuChecks, Foley's, etc.

The hospital isn't brand new so there's lots of outdated equipment. They are in the process of renewing all the units (which is really a pain at the moment) but it will look a lot better afterwards!

Let me know if you have any more questions about the unit. Hope this helped!

Hi Knorremeisje, thanks a million for taking time to reply to my thread. I feel so relieved to read from you and also in a dilemna about taking the job offer with JCL north mountain. I am due for an interview in March 11. Is it worth it? i ve read from other nurses as well and there are no good vibes about the hospital. What is your advise since you have worked there? I wish i can talk to you. i currently work in CCU in UK and hoping to start my immigration paperwork to get a work permit. You are lucky you didnt have to go through all this stuff. My husband is a student in Embry Riddle and this is my reason for immigrating but i dont want to be frustrated in the hospitals. I have been to Arizona several times to visit, i tried Banner health and other hospitals direct application but most of them say they dont sponsor. Do you live in Mesa? please, please, if you get a chance, tell me more about PCCU. Thanks again. shortie 2872

Hi shortie

Started whole process of 2003 on my own joined OGP june 2004 interviewed with St Joes August 2004 accepted job offer took and past Nclex march 2005 applied for I-140 may 2005 it took till August 2006 to have my I-140 passed since then case went to NVC retrogresion hit Oct 06, during the lifting of retrogresion last july got my case to the embassy but visas ran out before i got my medical and immigration interview, so at this moment waiting for the visa bulletin to state processing date may 05 or just after so i can get my medical interview and then get my greencard.

I wanted a greencard for me and my family didnt want to go on a work visa, also we have property in Arizona.

Shortie you need to ask suzanne on the international threads about time limits for work visa etc

I work in a surgical unit in a hospital on the outskirts of manchester UK, haved worked ICU, medical and ortho the list goes on and on tend to change units approx every 2yrs i must like a challenge LOL.

Unfortunately retrogression is affecting many. I have a PD of Aug 06 although have been at this process at lot longer but had a few issues both with hospital backing out and hubby changing his mind for several months. We are now in the process of going to Canada as hubby has a temp work permit and just bought a house in Nova Scotia and moving all being well 31st March. You may have to perceiver with contacting hospitals in AZ but you will have a long way to go. Lots have been written in the International forum on retrogression and immigration issues. Also it takes anything from 6+ months to get I140 approval and then is when you get caught up with retrogression. 1 member on here from Scotland waited 15 months for approval as you have no control over which service center it goes to

jcl north mountain is exactly what it is, a trauma level one hospital in the middle of a bad part of town. i know plenty of nurses who work there, and if they feel unsafe then security takes you to your car. plenty of experience there, they have a trauma icu and icu units and cvicu. they love their work there and yes it can be busy, but the hospital is good. the only reason they do not retain staff is the unsafe neighbourhood, not usually the work environment.
