MCC Fall 2015 placement

U.S.A. Arizona

Hi, has anyone else been placed at Mesa community college for the fall. I am in the afternoon evening class and would like to find others I will be in class with.

I was accepted but used my one time deferral in hopes of getting in somewhere a little closer to home. I live in Avondale and am hoping to continue working as many hours as possible during school. After sitting down and figuring a schedule of going to work from 5am-11am, going to campus from noon to ? plus clinical days and study groups, I think being closer to home would be better. I wonder what will be open for spring 2016? I am worried though because for Fall Glendale only had 7 openings for the weekend class and 3 for the evening class and Gateway had 28 for the evening classes. I really want to know more about the program at Phoenix College too. I actually only applied in Nov 2014 so I wasn't planning on being placed so soon! I am planning on doing the CEP program so I guess that helped me get moved up on the list a little bit?

Thanks for the response. I actually only waited a year and was also surprised when I got the email, but also very excited. MCC is only 2 miles from my house so it's perfect. I think its a good idea that you find a closer school. Nursing school is stressful enough you don't want to have the extra stress of all that driving. I hope you get placed somewhere closer to you. Is there a chance you may get placed at MCC again, that wouldn't be good. I know they seem to have the most spots. Good luck with everything.

I'm so glad that you see my point on that! I have been getting the eye roll from my coworkers because they think I must not want it bad enough to commute. I just want to be able to maintain as much balance in work, school and my personal life as I can. Congrats and Good Luck! Can you let me know what the schedule is going to be like for the afternoon classes when you find out? I'm just curious.

Hello, I have not been placed but I was hoping you (or someone) can tell give me an idea of what your school load looks like (with days and times)? Do you pick the class days and times yourself? OR is it a set schedule for all students in the program? I am hoping that by choosing the afternoon program, I would be able to better manage my home life and most importantly finding childcare. I would appreciate any guidance you can give me.

It's a set schedule, you do not get to choose any times/days. Block 1 is Monday-Thursday.

Hi,

I was placed in MCC's afternoon/evening classes for Fall '15 as well. I am nervous and excited...and pretty relieved that the application process is over with - what a headache! As of right now, my weeks 1-8 class schedule is:

M: 10:30A-6:30P

T: 10:30A-6:30P

Th: 11A-6:30P

The schedule changes after the first 8 weeks and I am assuming we receive our clinical hours/locations at orientation on the 18th. I hope to see you there!

I posted my schedule for MCC's program (Southern & Dobson campus) in response to the OP; you can see it above.

Classes are chosen by the nursing dept. advisors - unfortunately you do not get to pick them yourself. I had the same thought as you when I picked the afternoon/evening option in hopes that I would be available to work a part-time day job.

It didn't turn out that way for me due to the refresher courses I am taking that begin at 10:30A. If not for those, my regular courses would begin around noon.

I will also add that during the 2nd half of the semester, my lab times change; they run from about 7:30A-3:30 P, despite signing up for the afternoon/evening program.

I am fortunate in that I am able to budget and work my job schedule around my classes; I hope it all works out for you! I just wanted you to be aware that the school's interpretation of "afternoon/evening" is pretty loose.

Good luck!

I was placed for the evening MCC fall 2015, but also deferred for the semester in hopes to get into the CEP. Thanks for the info hereappleapple on your experience and what others may have to deal with.

Hi. I just got placed for FALL 15 at MCC's afternoon/evening class today 8/4! It is so last minute notice that I am stressed out about finding childcare and work schedule that i might have to turn it down and defer!!! How did you find out about your schedule? When does class actually start? I am freaking out.
