I have been accepted into both of these LPN programs. There isn't much difference other than drivng distance for me. One starts in Oct. and the other in Nov. One requires a $2K deposit. So, does anyone have any insight or experience at these particular schools? Thanks!!

There is a 16 wk class starting on 1/26 also. I plan to stop by Rio sometime this week to make sure they will accept my Math transfer credit. If they do, I will most definitely sign up for the class as I think I will learn much better personally in online setting vs. classroom.

What is it like at IIA? I haven't heard too much about it and would be interested in learning about their program.

:wink2:

I am currently taking CHM130 at Rio online, it is not too bad. You can access the tutors at Rio, and they also have online tutoring. Hopefully you will get a good instructor who will answer any questions you have quickly. You have to be disciplined to read and understand the material on your own. Just remember that you must get an average of 60% or better on both the midterm and final to pass the class, no matter what all your grades were on the other assignments.

Good Luck!!!

Thanks, cd1234. Best wishes & good luck to you also.

Getting a good instructor at Rio is what I am most worried about. I got really lucky with an awesome instructor through PVCC last semester and I don't think I will be that fortunate again. But who knows. I looked at the names of instructors for each session offered this semester at Rio (CHM 130) although that means nothing to me since I don't know any of them. lol I am glad you got lucky with a good instructor. I will be sure to check out the tutor site when I am enrolled. I am sure I will need all the help I can get!! :typing If anyone has an instructor you learned a lot from and have a recomendation, please PM me.. would love to make this a great learning opportunity and make the grade as well. I definitely need to pass but I want to make sure I learn & retain as much as I possibly can since I've never had chemistry.

Thanks again!:)

Greetings!

My background:

8 years corporate experience in ecommerce/software/web development industries as Client, Account, and Project Manager. I'm severely bored and do not feel like this is my calling. I have my AA and BA in Graphic Design and Photography, and entertain both in my free time..

I volunteer at a local hospital and LOVE it. I am seriously considering getting into the health care field, however, I have yet to make the final decision on which venue I want to take. Am leaning towards LPN or RN

Question 1:

What would be the logical road to take: Complete my cert as an LPN, hope I become established in a facility that will pay for school & continue to RN, or go all the way and hammer out my degree as an RN?

Question 2:

Call me a wuss, but I'm so terrified of taking chemistry, bio, micro bio, etc.

Bio vs. Chem to begin my journey; Does it matter? I want to do this right...school a second time around is much different.

Online vs. Physical class:

Anyone have insight on online courses? Back in my college days, I felt as though being in class, hands on, etc. served my brain better...but am open to online, just unsure of how much I will retain..

Thank you!

Since you have a BA, find an accelerated BSN program and knock it out quickly.

Science classes aren't hard, don't be afraid; there are millions of idiots who pass those classes.

If you retain the information, it'll make nursing school alot easier. But if you don't retain it, its ok because you'll see it again.

I think going directly for your LPN or RN is really a matter of time and money. Do you have the time to wait on the current waitlist at most schools to get your RN? If not, are you willing to pay a lot more to go to a private school to be done sooner? If not to that as well, then maybe starting out as an LPN might not be a bad decision. I have heard that hospitals are not so willing to pay for further education as they used to, but its still an option once have your LPN license. Considering you would be starting from scratch it is wise to know that you'll have perhaps a year of pre-reqs to complete before evening applying to most RN programs.

Hey Cursed....what about Algebra.....Im an idiot that can't seem to get past this......I can do science all day! Algebra, now that's another story!!!! Any advice?

learn enough to pass the class, they'll teach you the math you need to know in nursing school; its all the same proportional formula

Dosage calculations and extensive Algebra equations are NOT the same thing! I get the dosage calc. I dunno.......

Algebra's a large area of math; what part are you having problems with?

Lizzyru - I'm interested in enrolling at IIA, could you please provide me with information about the school?

I initially started taking CHM130 through Rio and found that I was in over my head. I wound up dropping the class and taking it in person the next semester at EMCC. My thoughts on the class are that you miss out on a lot of the lab stuff taking CHM130 online. Not to mention trying to do the experiments they send you at home can be confusing. I am not trying to discourage you, just being honest about my experience. I would take it in person if at all possible!
