Job Market?

U.S.A. Arizona

Published

Hi everyone!

I am looking to relocate in December/January, and I am wondering how the job market is out in AZ? I found an older thread from 2012 stating the market was not good, has that changed at all?

Thanks everyone :)

EDIT: I should also add that I will be graduating with my BSN, and I am from Chicago where the job market isn't the best either!

I'm not sure where you are moving to in Arizona, but where I'm at (near Phoenix) it was a bit difficult. I was a new grad coming from out of state as well and I found out that this area has quite a bit of nursing schools surrounding the area so it's really saturated with available nurses. BUT I was quite persistent and didn't give up (definitely not trying to brag, but I really was super persistent). I applied to about 150+ jobs, got two interviews, and one job offer and took it and love it!

I would religiously apply to the banner hospitals, they Are super supportive and generous with their on boarding process as well as orientation. Other hospitals in the area are John c Lincoln, honor health, and dignity health.

Good luck!

Minkuscat- Thank you SO much for your reply! I really appreciate your input and it gave me hope not to give up as I too am a very motivated person. I am hoping to move around the Phoenix/Scottsdale/Glendale area, but am really open-minded about where I ultimately end up. Thanks again :)

I've been hearing it is getting a little better. A friend of mine just moved from NM with 1 yr RN exp. and was hired at a local rehab hospital here in Gilbert, AZ (20 min from PHX). I also heard that there has been some turnover at Banner and they are hiring--some of the positions being open to new grads. It all depends on the tides-if there's a turnover, jobs pop up. If they just got filled, it is harder to find openings. Just keep a positive outlook and remain persistent and patient. Sometimes your first job isn't your dream job, but at least it gets your foot in the door and some experience. Good luck.

From what everyone has been telling me, things have been getting better. I had a co-worker get her ADN in Dec 2013 and it took her 8 months to find a job, not directly in the hospital. Fast forward a bit, and another co-worker just got her BSN in May 2015 and got 2 full time job offers in hospitals within a month! It really all depends on where they have a need, and of course it helps if you know someone.
