The bonus, when spilt comes to about 600 after taxes. The bonus is paid out I believe after the referred person works 90 days.

I think their pay for a new grad is 24 and some change. I don't know if they ask new grads to stay a year. I was not and only have 1 year of experience.

When no one will teach you things and nit-pick behind your back for things they do themselves, tell you you're doing well if not better than they at the same point in learning ICu, then have to worry about losing your job because you don't know how to run your first crashing patient yourself and can't identify a rhythm people who have been there several years can't, you get pushed (literally) by a preceptor cause she wanted to be at the head of the bed in trasport, have no say so in your assignments or precptors...yes. This goes against magnet criteria. I had to spend a lot of my own money to move for that job, much more than their moving allowance but was happy to do so when I thought I would get proper training.

Thanks for the heads up.........I was thinking of applying to one of their ICUs.

Hi

I am with the nurse recruiter at Shea Hospital Scottsdale, she seemed lovely I also looked at Boswell hospital near Sun city. Both are about same distance away from 101 loop.

I am also wondering about JC Lincoln Deer valley

St. Joseph's HANDS DOWN. Non-profit and the bennies are good. Only problem is if you come from the West or East Coast, the pay is much less than the W/E coast. It is also a Right-to-Work State. Good thing is that they do hire qualified LPN's if you are a LPN. If you are a RN they have a state of the art Trauma Team and also world leaders in Neurology. The best TBI and Spinal Cord Acute Rehabilitation Nursing.

Specializes in NICU.

I've lived here all my life too. However I didn't go to school here so I have no experience with doing clinicals and whatnot at the various valley hospitals. What I do have is personal experience as a patient and from being a family member/friend of patients at different valley hospitals.

Please don't just go by what people say though. I see things on here like "I've heard to stay far away from County" and that makes me just cringe! County isn't what it used to be (for those of you that were around in the "bad County" days, a lot has changed). I worked at County for about 6 months and I really loved it. The only reason I left is because I got a better offer in the exact unit I wanted. It was extremely hard to leave though because the people I worked with were AWESOME! The only reason I wouldn't want to be a patient there is because, like Hoozdo said, the rooms have up to 4-6 patients. But the people that work there do so because they like to and they like working with that particular patient population .... I know I did.

Go take a tour of the different hospitals, talk with lots of different people that have personal experience and/or have worked at the different hospitals. One person's experience might be totally different than another's ..... so talk with a few people. And remember, the recruiters are of course going to be nice ..... they are trying to sell you something. So look past that and dig deeper.

Specializes in Policy, Emergency OR, Peds OR, CVOR.

I have quite a ways to go before I graduate.....

That said, I know that Phoenix is definitely on our short list of where we are going to move. (the chandler area probably)

Is is wishful thinking that I will be able to get a position in a children's hospital as a new grad?

Should I stay here and get experience in a ped's dept before I move? How much exp?

You should have no problems getting a job in peds as a new grad. Try googling the website for Phoenix Children's Hospital and check out their openings. From my experience, the only specialties difficult to break into are psych and OR.

I agree with the above poster, you should have no problem at all getting into a pediatric area.

I know Phoenix Children's Hospital has some tough requirements to get into their new grad programs, but only because there's only so many slots for new grads so it gets kinda competitive. There are some awesome pediatric units though at other hospitals in the valley, not just at PCH. What area exactly are you looking at getting into ...... general peds? PICU? NICU?

This is to the Scottsdale Shea poster, evidently you are a "perfect fit." Imagine being told after 4 months of employment, relocating from another state to take that job, that your jobs skills are excellent, "it's just sometimes people are not a perfect fit." Just like that, your job is gone!!! The nurses there are snobby, and most don't need the job. The patients are diamonds and suits. Precepting is horrible there, imagine having a different preceptor every day of your orientation with each telling you a different way to do things, even though you have been a nurse for 10 years. The night floor supervisors are catty and bitchy. They talk about the employees to each other. The pay and benefits were wonderful. It is just too bad that there are nurses out there like that, that won't let you just do your job unless you fit in.
