Where is everybody from AZ??? Is there anybody from Tucson on this site??? I'm bored.....

I live on the SE side too! My hospital is on the other side of town that I work at now (but not NWH) so I completely understand hating the drive! :o I hear that NWH has a good critical course available. You say the RNs were nice? I haven't heard that. Got any advice on what to study for 4th semester?

Yeah, study cardiac! Know it front and back, up and down, and side to side! Basically, refresh your memory on everything you learned in 2nd semester, plus study mechanical ventilation, ABG's, rhythm strips, hemodynamic monitoring, neuro stuff, endocrine system...there's a lot!

Good luck!

Lu Ann,

I've heard some stuff about GCC. That they really try and get you in block 4. I've also heard the program is unorganized, is this true?

Anyway, I'm at SWSC and they treat us like babies, hold our hands through everything, and are unorganized as hell.

Hows your externship going? I can't wait till my block 2 is over (Mar) I'm going to apply at banner right away.

Well, as far as unorganized..........we have transfer students from Phoenix College that did block 3 there and transferred to GCC for block 4 saying PC is unorganized. So it seems block 3 at PC in unorganized. The only "unorganized part" at GCC is the subject material for tests.........say you are studying cardiac in the afternoon and high risk maternity in the morning and the test covers both. In other words, you have to know two topics inside and out. Our next test should be better - adult neurology and peds neurology...at least it's all neurology :rotfl: The only other thing that is unorganized is getting time to review your tests, all of the instructors are teaching 28 or so credits and you have to review 1 on 1 with the teacher. It is tough getting a review time.......and I know I will see those questions again on the final. Another big change you will see from SWSC is that you have to take tests, watch films, and skill lab on your own time - not class time. No biggie, but it presses you for time.

I study so well on my own, that I wish we got to do more stuff on our own. Instead I am sitting in class almost 24 hrs a week falling asleep! :rotfl: Weren't you one of the people that said if you had to do it over again you'd do rio because you had to do so much on your own at GCC anyway? I am really thinking about doing Rio for blocks 3 and 4. I just don't hear as much about it, so I don't know how good it is compared to the other CC's out here.

So if you do skills lab on your own time, who teaches you the skills?

24 hours a week in class????? Is this including clinical time? Gees, that's a lot. I spend 5 hours/week this semester.

Yep, that was me. I would go to Rio instead if I had to do it over again. I do really well with self study. I know there is a place on the AZ State Board of Nursing site that gives the pass percentage of all the programs in AZ. Glendale is like 99% but I don't remember Rio's.

At Rio they teach skills at clinical. At Glendale I guess you learn them in lab....I went to Maricopa Skill Center for block 1 and block 2 so I don't know how they teach skill at Glendale. In block 3 you are expected to know all the skills except the IV stuff and they don't teach that in the lab.

Well back to my care plan, yech

How's it going over there in block 4 at PC? Class average after two out of 5 tests is 78% at Glendale  My average is whopping 81%, for those of you who don't know, less than 76% is failing. I was an all A student prior to nursing school.

Something is wrong with this picture! I swear to God, I can't study any harder than I already am. I am getting so burnt out I almost don't care anymore! Most of my class is in grave danger of failing this block.

Finals on 11/9.........

Sorry, just noticed you were from Tucson. See, I told you I was getting burnt out. :rotfl: Anybody else here in block 4 in the MCC district?

Wow, thats insane! So what is it, just tons of obsure questions on tests? We've had some where I swear two of the anwers mean the SAME thing, so it's a toss up between which one to pick. And I swear one of our instructors is such an ass that she must make these questions up, and if you try to fight her on any of them she treats it like an insult to her intelligence.

I'm just trying to figure out which school would be okay to go to for blocks 3 and 4!!! I keep hearing horror stories about glendale. I found out that at Rio for adv placement it will probably take me a 2 semester wait to get in. I remember you saying to went right into glendale, no waiting list. DId you look at any other schools or just glendale?

My PCP this year told me that Glendale students are better trained AND have better scores then even those RN's coming out of ASU :bowingpur .I go to GCC and it seems like once you hit the BIO part (even in pre-NS) They will hammer you. Personally, I like the challenge I has really showed me that i can not just skate by like i use to in the past, and my study habits have really changed now for the better. I admit i was a straight B student, but once i hit BIO my grade went to C really fast, but i keep telling myself that this difficulty is just preparing me for the real world. GCC is one of the best RN programs out there here in AZ, and the hospitals/PCP know this

OK, what's the horror stories? I can confirm them or not but maybe in a PM! :coollook:

Bummer about Rio and the wait.......there is a wait for block 3? I think block 3 is usually wide open if you enter at that point at most of the MCC schools. Alot of students quit after block 2 and some flunk block 2. At Glendale, I was the ONLY new student in block 3!

As far as where to go to block 3 and 4, I don't know. I know the people that transferred from PC in block 4 hated PC siting "disorganization". Maybe we should start a new thread about where to do block 3 and 4. Perhaps the best bet is to make your #1 choice the closest to your house, that is what I did! At least you can save on gas money :chuckle

Back to my OB case studies :crying2:

Sounds like the instructor is failing. Those course objectives should be clear enough that students can study the correct material and pass with a reasonably good score. Could it be a new instructor?
