by cytotech113 Apr 7, '12I'm wanting to know if there are any Genetic nurses on here? I currently work at an oncology lab as a cytogenetic technologist and I'm planning on applying to nursing school after the summer. I would like to be able to continue to use my genetics background as a nurse and originally thought of research. However, I came across some info on genetic nursing, and was wanting to find out what the main differnces are between genetic nurses/advanced practice nurses in genetics and genetic councelors? Also, I know it's still a growing field so is there much of a job market out there right now, and if so, where would one work in AZ?
thanks in advance!

I have been looking into that as well. I am currently in nursing school and would like to get either my masters or PhD in genetics without having to take a bunch of science courses as pre-reqs to those programs.
Right now, I work on a pediatric clinical research unit, and we primarily take care of genetics kids. So maybe a research career would be a good fit for you.
Hope this helps!
