GCU transfer fast track? Frustrated with CEP.

I'm new here, so hi! I have been on the wait list for Maricopa while I've been finishing up my pre reqs for the CEP. I'll be finished with my last class in July. I found out that they will be holding an application session possibly in August for UOP only (and of course I don't have all of those pre reqs) for a spring '13 start. Other than that I would be waiting until February just to apply to NAU or ASU CEP. I've kind of had enough waiting so I called up GCU. I am planning on getting in to a spring '13 start there. Why don't more people do this?! I had no idea it was so simple and affordable. Is anyone else heading over to GCU?

I still have a lot of information to gather, but I just can't wait another year to start nursing classes.

are you sure they will not have another cep app session until february?? i was just accepted into the mcc/nau cep for august start and i'm really excited. i think it really is worth waiting for because of the price tag.

i considered gcu but i'm not willing to spend that much money on a bachelor's degree. if you have a 3.7 gpa or over they will give you $3500 per semester in scholarships but you have to keep a 3.5 during the entire nursing program to keep the funds. i say still go for the cep it is so affordable through nau ! if you decide to go for gcu best of luck ! :redpinkhe

another though is if you have a few months until you can apply maybe you can do a short course like cna, phlebotomy etcc so you can start working in the field....

I have been emailing back and forth with ASU, NAU, and Maricopa advisors this past week and all have told me Feb is the next application session. Basically through GCU I will graduate a year at least before I would with the CEP. I will qualify for the 7k a year scholarshi at GCU. And from what I know now, I'll graduate in a year and a half leaving me with only about 15k in loans. But if I can start working as a nurse an entire year before I would with CEP, in my mind it kind of offsets the cost. I am currently an EMT, but I haven't been able to find work in the valley yet. I'm going to start volunteering at a hospital for hopefully a foot in the door. I just can't imagine waiting over a year to even start nursing courses when that is all that I have left. I would have to stay in school during that time as well, which will cost me money on classes that I don't need. I'm getting more info tomorrow at a GCU info session. But it really looks like that is the quickest way for me to graduate.

i see your point but what if you don't find a job right away?? just remember that is a possibility with the way the economy is for nurses right now. if you are an emt why don't you look for patient care tech, or cna jobs?? i think you qualify for them...at least you can get some patient care experience . i went to a gcu info session i can email you the documents they gave out if you pm me or post your email address....

I have been applying to every pct, cna, emt job that I find. Nothing. Either way, CEP or GCU, if I don't get a job soon after I'm stuck with a hefty loan to pay. My email is [email protected] thanks!

Hi I sent that info to you, yeah that's why I got turned off from GCU, I just don't want to pay that. Plus I want to go to Graduate school so I need to save everything I can!

Thanks so much!! They are changing pre reqs for those wanting to start Fall '13 or after. But I found out that I'll be in the running for Spring '13 start. I'm excited to finally start nursing courses, and to be done so quickly! I will know if I'm accepted later this fall, after the deadline passes.

I would be stuck with a loan if I went to CEP as well. I've been looking into other scholarships too. It's not that much more expensive in the long run. I plan on going to grad school sometime after too, but I'm not sure I want to go right away.

Hey! You said they are changing the pre-reqs for CEP? Any idea to what? I just put in my application for the waitlist and plan on applying for the CEP in due time. My husband is active duty military at the moment so I can afford to wait awhile. I am curious as to what they are changing the CEP pre reqs to.....TIA!

They are changing the GCU pre reqs for Fall '13 and beyond. CEP pre reqs are slightly different for each college (NAU, ASU, UOP) and they are available through the maricopa nursing website. :)

I've had a few friends graduate from GCU - they all liked the program and were hired quickly after graduation. For me, it's too expensive. I just can't imagine paying that much when as CinDRnyc said, it's much cheaper through CEP. But if you feel this is the right path for you, then go for it. Like I said, everyone I know that's gone through GCU has had a positive experience. If you decide to go there, I hope you do, too.

But with the scholarship, once I actually crunched the numbers, it's not bad at all. And it's quicker than CEP. Which is a big deal for me. Not only will I get in and start sooner, it's only 20 months until I'm done with my BSN.

Keep in mind that to keep the scholarship money you have to keep your gpa at a certain level during the ENTIRE program. It was just something I considered too. I think they said for the $3500 scholarship (3.7 and above) you have to keep a 3.5 GPA to keep the funds....
