HEY!

Is there any Tucson applicants for Spring semester? I already took my HESI applied for the fall and was placed on the waiting list. So here I am once again giving it another shot. Hopefully, this time around I make it...

Looking to Apply to GCU for the spring 2015 cohort. I chose the AT still campus, I have a 4.0 overall GPA. Taking my HESI the ending of July.

Hi you guys!

I'm not trying to get into any of the Arizona campuses but am over at the Albuquerque campus. I was placed on the wait list for Fall as well.

I'm getting so impatient and really want September to get here!

Baffy,I think you are golden, from my experience this time around GPA is the most important factor into acceptance.

@ApricotTea, I know the feeling I hope we make it this time around... I really felt disappointed but all we can do is keep trying.

Hello everyone,

I’m applying for the SHC campus!! I haven’t taken my entrance exam yet I’m kind of scared!! Lol!! For those of you who have taken the HESI any tips on what to study for the A&P section? Well good luck to all of us!!

Baffy.....Congratulations on your GPA that’s awesome!! I have a 3.8 overall I hope its good enough to get in!!:nailbiting: Good luck on your exam and keep us posted after you take it!!

Mari,

The A&P part in the HESI is not hard it is just all over the place, I personally think I studied more of how the body systems work and had nothing to do with it....lol I will recommend if you have a smart phone to download an app called HESIA2 it was 12.99 I believe and study that along with whatever study guide you have, but from my experience at least here in Tucson the HESI score was not that important, I knew of someone that got in with a good GPA but a very crappy HESI score... Good luck!!keep us posted on your score!!

adjj0307,

I was wondering if you knew what it is that we will have to do this application cycle. I plan on getting in touch with my adviser again very soon but was curious to see if there was any word here. Do you know if we will have to reapply, are we automatically accepted for the Spring? One of the people accepted to the Albuquerque program for Fall mentioned in the NM GCU thread that she overheard a few people at our immunization meeting saying that they were automatically accepted for Fall. They were alternates the semester before.

Sorry about all of the questions, I just really want to start nursing school! :shy:

Well I called my advisor and asked him what I had to do, for the spring and he said just let him know that I want to apply and he placed me on the list again. As far as I know i don't think you are placed the following semester if you were placed in the alternate list. I know that from campus to campus the acceptance process is slightly different. Do you guys had an interview? Here in Tucson we did and we were told that could help if our GPA was not too competitive, but when it came to the selection I was told by my advisor that it was based on GPA...I completely understand the feeling I hate not knowing is like the have your future in their hands!!

Hello,

Thanks so much for your help!! I’ll check out the HESI app!! I plan on taking the exam by mid-August I’ll keep you guys posted.:nailbiting: One more question are you able to use a calculater throughout the entire math test? Well, I wish you lots of luck. . . I’m sure you’ll make it in this semester!! I"m super confused on what they look for when it comes to acceptances. . Some say its GPA some say its HESI score it’s frustrating!!

Okay thanks!

We do not have to interview, but acceptance was pretty much all GPA based as well. They did tell me that HESI score and a previous degree would help, but when it came down to it, it was all GPA ( I had a really good HESI score and was in my final semester of my psych degree when I applied, I was quite bummed about the decision).

There are only 24 spots for our program, and I think about 73 applied for the Fall start date. Because of the local university and community college, GCU really is not all that well known here in Albuquerque, which may factor in to the whole interview thing. However, I do think that that is changing, people are realizing that GCU is a really good option. I retook a couple classes this summer just in case...

Mari_315,

I would not stress out over the A&P section. I only had one day to study for the HESI, and while I had taken it previously for another school I was applying to, I did not have to take the A&P section then. I also had not taken A&P in 1.5 - 2 years and had forgotten a lot of it. I literally focused on the A&P in the Evolve book and the McGraw-Hill book the day before ( I really liked the McGraw-Hill book, more so than the Evolve book).

I ended up getting a 92 cumulative score and an 84 on the A&P section. Do I wish I had gotten higher than an 84, yup, but given that I crammed for it and it really is all over the place, I was very happy with my score. As adjj0307 said, GPA really is the most important factor, and you have a great GPA! adjj0307 gave great advice when it comes to studying, have a general understanding of how the body systems work. Reason out the answers and you will do good.

Remember to breathe, study smart, and you will rock the HESI!
