Has anyone taken CHM 130 online at Rio Salado? It looks like I'm being laid off from my teaching job, and I would like to apply as soon as possible. CHM 130 is the last class I need, and I was thinking about taking it online for 8 weeks at Rio Salado. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

It's not really that difficult, I took the 14 week class along with PSY101, BIO156 and MAT122.... I got a B in all my classes...

I thought the labs were really fun. You get a kit with all the stuff and get to do experiments! They have links to cute little cartoons that explain how molecules and atoms move around... I found them funny, and helpful to understand everything.

Good luck!

So did you have to buy the book & kit from them? Or were you able to buy it used elsewhere? Also, do you think the 8 week class is fine to take? I work full time as a teacher, and am taking A & P now as well. I think it should be okay, but I don't want to waste my money if it's really difficult to do in 8 weeks. I took BIO 156 in 8 weeks, so I think I should be okay with it. Also, do you have any particular instructor that you would recommend? Was the textbook expensive?

Thank you for your helpful response.

Oh wow, I commend you on being able to do BIO156 in 8 weeks, there's no way I could have. My instructor wasn't that pleasant and not helpful at all though, for bio156. My CHM130 instructor was really nice, her initials are C.H.

You'll need to buy the lab kit from Rio, it comes with almost everything you will need. I just looked it up, it's $55. There are a few things you have to buy though, most of them you may already have in your house, to do the experiments.

I can't remember what the book cost, but right now the required book and CD are $91 for both. They don't buy back or sell used CHM books bcuz they have the custom edition, and you get a login to the website for the publisher with the book. I used the online part to study for tests because it has a quiz generator thing that you can select which chapters to be quizzed on. You could probably do it without that, and just use the book if you find a used one.

I still have mine, and it still has quite a bit of time left for the web login. The book is like brand new, It was just used for last semester, so it's still current. I'll give you my web login info, the book and cd for $40 if you want.

I only have one class left to apply as well, but it's BIO201 and I had to drop it because I started working full time and I'm pregnant. So right now I'm just taking Medical Terminology hcc145 and mat142, they don't require a lot of time compared a biology.

I had to fax over a form to Rio Salado to show proof that I took the math at another college, so I'm just waiting to see if my request will be approved. If so, I wnat to take the class that starts on the 15th. I will send you a pm if it goes through because I'm interested in your book. Thanks! I am taking the A & P as well, and that chemistry is the last class I need. I'm kinda stressed though and want to get everything done because I'm going to be laid off from my teaching job and won't be able to find another one.

Is there any particular program you're going to apply to? I'm not sure if it's best to do the RN or LPN to RN because the wait list is shorter for the LPN.

Why are they laying you off? what do you teach? sorry to hear that. I'm planning on applying to the RN program when I get the BIO201 done... which I probably won't take until late summer term or fall. I haven't looked into any LPN programs, I thought they discontinued LPN as part of the 2 yr RN... but maybe they offer it separate?

For me a 2 year wait is okay, because by then this baby I'm pg with will be old enough I won't mind sending her to daycare. I have a son that is almost 2, and he stayed at home with me until recently when I started working.

i don't think i can pm yet, so if you want you can email me [email protected]

I teach 5th grade in Buckeye. It's crazy they're laying me off because we already have at least 30+ kids in a class, and they are just talking about increasing class sizes more next year. I don't know 100% they're laying me off, but pretty certain because it's only my 1st year in this district. I've been working on the pre-requisites, but this just gives me more of an incentive to finish everything up and apply now. I'm planning on getting the TB test and filling out paperwork on my spring break.

I'll post another message when Rio Salado gives me that override to take the course. I checked this morning and they hadn't registered me yet, but it would take up to 72 hours, or at least that's what they said.

I am taking it right now and thinking I am going to be taking it in person next semester at Gateway or Central Arizona a this rate.

I am also taking Micro- and the having to cite for essays even on the midterm and final is crazy! But I wanted to be able to apply to the LPN-RN at Gateway for fall or go to UoP if I can find a job soon!

So would you say the 8 week at Rio is very difficult? I'm just trying to see if I should take it or not. Otherwise it would delay my application for the programs. I work full time, but I have weekends and evenings free. The only class I'm taking right now is A & P online, and that has been very easy so far. How would you say it compares to BIO 156 online at RIO?

I did Bio156 in the 8 week format. Chemistry is harder and the class and the lab are like taking two classes so at an accelerated pace it'll be alot more work to have to push into a shorter time. But doable of you have the aptitude for this style of classes at Rio.

However, if you are going the LPN route to RN you don't need it to apply.

I'm finished with the LPN and taking my NCLEX this month.
