Brookline College Accelerated Nursing Program

U.S.A. Arizona

Published

Hey! Is there anyone attending Brookline College (in Phoenix, AZ) new accelerated bachelor's degree program. I plan to start it May 9th and would like to know anyone's opinion on the school?

Do you have any personal experience with brookline? or their students? Im trying to make a final decision. Yes Im aware of the price, and Im also aware of the waiting lists at many other Arizona Colleges.

Any Info would help! Thanks.

I am currently a student there. I find it a very challenging program, but think the instructors are very good. I have not ever regretting choosing it. Of course it is not perfect, but no other school is, either.

Delia,

Funny, I should add, that I previously commented on this thread last summer having similar questions before attending Brookline. I am currently 1 week shy from completing the 2nd (of 4) semester of the ABSN program here. Let me start off by saying your questions are very broad, so please reply if you need clarification, or have more specific questions I can answer.

That being said, Brookline is actually a great school. I was skeptical myself, being from out of state, but they do an amazing job with their teaching staff. It is a fairly newer school, so some bugs are in the works, but that will not hinder your education. I have had no problem passing any of the classes thrown at me so far, granted I haven't been working throughout the program. The professors are all previously or current practicing nurses, which helps in their teaching style.

ANY nursing school is challenging, so don't let the nay-sayers discourage you. If you work hard, accomplish what is asked, and study study study, you will do fine. As for the price, it may be more than some other nursing schools, however the accelerated program they offer without a waiting list goes unmatched. That is why I moved here from Oregon.

Again, any further questions just let me know. I'll try to check this thread more often than I do.

HI Jack, I am wondering about the financial aid. Did you take out loans? If so, how did that work out for you? Going into the program, did you pay for some of it yourself out of pocket or just loans? And do you know if you are able to transfer your rn lisc to oregon if you go back? I read in other forms about their classes being nationally accredited and not regionally accredited? I could be wrong. And best of luck to you!

I'm planning to attend August 2015 ABSN program. I was little skeptical because I'm an out of state student as well. However, after doing some background research on Brookline, I'm fine. The only thing is the tuition cost, 49k is pricey. I just gotta figure that out!

Last I checked is that they only deal with Wells Fargo and Mountain Credit... regarding private student loans. But of course they do FAFSA as well.

Since going to the ABSN program there this August. Is there any subject that I should review prior like Pathology? I'm done with all the prerequisites and HESI.

Delia-

Have you already taken Patho? If so, some review would help. My first semester included Pathophysiology, health assessment, fundamentals of nursing, intro to professional nursing, gerontology, and informatics in nursing. Some students had already taken patho so it was not included in their first semester, but in other classes like health assessment, and adult health in the 2nd/3rd semester, the information is helpful on exams if it's fresh in your mind.

Aczhao-

I have a previous bachelors degree, so I took out loans through FAFSA but it did not cover the entire tuition. So I am having to pay some out of pocket as well. Oregon is not a compact state, but you are always able to transfer your RN license. Brookline's credits may not transfer to most other schools, but they are dual accredited and allow you to sit for the RN-NCLEX exam upon graduation. All you need to transfer your RN license, depending no the state, is usually an application and sometimes a fee. Other than that, once you're licensed, you're licensed.

I just finished my 2nd (of 4) semester here at brookline, and passed all my classes. It's a great school!

Do you think I would be able to work a part-time job like : waitressing once or twice a week while in this program? I'm used to a heavy work load. I had 2 jobs and six classes per semester while doing my prior degree. However, I hear that the workload is intense...so I wanted your opinion since your already in the program. Congrats on passing everything so far btw!

Yes you could make that work -- i know many people in my class that work part time as well and have managed. Of course, it will just be more work on your part, but it is doable! I myself don't work, but I respect those that do because the program can be difficult at times. I would recommend nights only (because we are usually finished by 4-5pm -ish) or weekends. I unfortunately got stuck with saturday clinical rotations this semester, but it's in the ED and i love the ED! Worth it haha.

have any of you that currently attend ran into any problems with classes/teachers? I am thinking of attending there this august at the albuquerque campus but a couple people said run but I have been searching here and havent really found anything negative about them except the cost. I was looking at going there because here its the only bsn program with out a waitlist that is accredited

If you can don't do Brookline - they are a money making business. They don't really care about the students and the moment you start struggling they will drop you from the program.
