AZ Law??? Please advise

U.S.A. Arizona

Published

Just heard that there is an AZ law prohibiting the hire of new RN grads as psych nurses.

I have been through all of the links in the stickies on this forum and have not been able to find anything to support this.

Can anyone support or refute this information? If in fact there is such a law, could you please provide a link?

I am disappointed, if this is true, that our instructors did not share this information with us.

Thank you for input

There is no such law. I am curious to know who told you this.

This information was provided by a recruiter/hr person for a large hospital in AZ. This individual seemed quite sure what he/she/it was saying.

Thanks

More likely it's the hospital's current hiring policy for psych nursing.

Totally wrong. One of my classmates got a psych job - with kids no less - fresh out of nursing school. Try St. Luke's...

Absolutely not true. At all. That recruiter was lying. Says boatloads about that hospital, now doesn't it?

Hi; First you all should know your area of practice, what you were trained to do, and you should hope to have an orientation. So Kabin was right, hosp policy, not state law. In future any nursing practice act questions goto az nursing site, or remember what you feel comfortable with! Today Hosp has cna or Pt care tech doing EKG'S, feeding tubes, and cath care!

one of my friends was hired in psych in her fourth block in the mccd program(just last semester) and is still there as an RN now. sounds like hospital policy.
