ASU or NAU/GWCC CEP?

U.S.A. Arizona

Hi everyone, I'm new to the site and am halfway through my first semester at SCC. I am transferring to GWCC for the fall 2016 term and am looking to do the CEP program once I am finished with the prerequisite course work. I was originally planning on doing the CEP through ASU but have noticed many of you have opted for NAU and was just curious as to why NAU seemed to be the popular pick. Are there any obvious pros/cons to going through either university for the online upper division BSN courses?

NAU is a little, cheaper than ASU. Each school as very different classes. NAU has a few classes that are in person whereas ASU is completely online.

Specializes in L&D, Trauma, Ortho, Med/Surg.

NAU costs quite a bit less than ASU. ASU requires more coursework (between 38 and 45 credit hours) whereas NAU only requires 30. ASU is $425/hour, and NAU is $376.

With NAU, you graduate with your BA at the same time as you complete the Maricopa's AAS - it is 6 semesters total.

With ASU, you gradate with your BA 1 or 2 semesters after you graduate from the Maricopa College - depending on when you begin (Fall or Spring) - and the progam is 8 semesters total.

Personally, I picked NAU because it costs less. I am a penny pincher, and in the end, I don't think that getting my BA from ASU vs. NAU is going to matter all that much, so I went cheaper. I considered UIU too, but I needed some extra classes that I didn't want (uhh, public speaking!). Funny circumstances led me to taking chemistry anyway - but, I still picked NAU in the end.

One thing that I think is missing from the NAU, and I'm not sure if ASU offers this, but I know UIU did - is there are no nursing course choices. I would love to be able to take some complimentary classes of my choosing (alternative medicine was one for UIU for example). GL!

edited to add: by the way - ASU requires more coursework, however, NAU requires more coursework up front - prior to applying. ASUs coursework is the same really - but you do more work within their cohort, vs. prior to beginning.
