ASU Nursing Program Spring 2011 hopefuls

U.S.A. Arizona

Hi,

I am thinking of applying for Spring 2011. I have just found out that the lowest TEAS score for ASU was about 79% with average of 87%. I am worried. I have a GPA of 4.0. But last time I took the TEAS for Fall (w/o studying!!), I got 75.3%. I still did not start preparation as the kids have summer break and I am busy with them. But, I was wondering if someone has already applied... Can anyone also suggest how they are preparing for the TEAS? Let's post our GPAs and TEAS score to know where we stand... It might also work as encouragement for some of us.:)

I graduated in December of 09, and the changes they made to the program introduced more online learning. That seemed pretty pointless to me, because the majority of the program is already self taught. Get ready to teach yourself how to give injections haha!

Maybe the changes they made will have been for the better, because the program really sucked when I graduated. None of my classmates were really impressed by the "self taught" education we received.

I'm currently a Jr 2 and we did not teach ourselves how to give injections, we spent a whole day learning them and practicing. I just gave my first IM injection yesterday and I felt very prepared for that. There are a lot of things we do have to teach ourselves, but thats more to do with the lecture classes. As far as changes go I've heard that the changes are related to admission into the nursing program, like adding an interview, not anything to do with the program itself.

Im surprised they're making you wait until november to find out if you're in the program. I know the wait is hard. :uhoh3: Good luck everyone!

Bells23, did you have difficulty finding a job after you graduated?

Ok, so the cutoff is 5.597...anyone else on the Alternate list??

The cutoff is 5.597, anyone else on the ALTERNATE list??

The cut off score for Spring 2011 is 5.597? Did you just get your letter in the mail?

That is indeed the cut off score. I am also an alternate on the list, and there are a total of 10 of us. I talked with Cheryl Herrera and she said she's unable to tell us where exactly the alternates rank..... this is getting so frustrating =/

I didn't get anything in the mail today...

Are you an alternate also? If you are, what is your advancement score? If there are only 10 of us, knowing how close we are in scores would help in knowing where we rank among those 10... Mine is 5.574

Wow, your cutoff score was a 5.597? That's pretty high!

I am in the Accelerated Summer cohort (currently a Jr. 2) and for our alternate list, all 10 alternates actually got in. I'm not sure how the alternate lists normally go, though, so I don't know if that is an anomaly or not. CONGRATULATIONS, though! You guys are one step closer! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you guys that you can get bumped in!!! If you guys have any questions, please feel free to ask!

:heartbeat

P.S. Although Bells23 is accurate about saying that there is a lot of "self taught" modules/information in the program, and it can be frustrating at times to say the least, you WILL get the information you need to know one way or another. I definitely wish there was more time in the Adult Health rotation in Junior 2, but you CERTAINLY won't teach yourself how to give injections. Actually, lab is one of the better run parts of ASU's program! All the people who work in the labs are great and they will literally stay there with you for hours after lab until you feel comfortable with something. ASU's program has it's problems for sure, but it's still a good program, and getting better with each semester because they see the issues and try to fix them as soon as possible. :)

Hi everyone, I got my advancement letter today in the mail. I've been so nervous about it all semester, but I'm definitely excited and happy to be part of the program :)

Does anyone happen to know when school would start? Are we starting on the same day as every ASU student?

And should we re-read our biology/physiology and pathophysiology books in order to prep for the program?

If anyone can give me any input on this, that would be great.

Also for those that are on the alternate list, don't give up! :D

You should start on the same day as everyone else at ASU unless the first day is on a thursday. if it is on a thursday then you most likely wont start until the following monday. But we usually get done a week earlier than everyone else which is great :)

You dont really need to review anything from pre-reqs because even though that knowledge is a good base pretty much everything you learn in Jr 1 is brand new information. and anything that needs to be reviewed they'll go over again.

Congrats to all of you who made it into the program! Enjoy your free time now while you have it lol

And those of you who made it on the alternate list dont lose hope because most if not all of the alternate from my group were accepted. :D
