Anyone else pursuing BSN as a second bachelor's?

I was curious to know if anyone else is pursuing a nursing degree after already having received a BA? Were you able to get the funding you needed? I was just accepted into Chamberlain's BSN program and will fill out the FAFSA this week. I am just a little worried that I will not get the funding I need since I already used a portion for my other bachelor's. Also, does anyone know of any good scholarships or grants out there for re-entry students?

Any info would be helpful. Thank you!:)

I can't recall the name of it at the moment but I will look into it. There is a local retired nurses organization that does assist in scholarships...I found them on scholarships.com then my husband ran into a member one day taking a burglary call and she told him that once I got a seat and start date to contact them. I got into the Banner Nurse Fellows Program so I did not need to approach them for a scholarship. I completely forgot about them until now. I believe their deadline was in October or March. I wish I was getting my BSN I am going through the community college now and hope to start my BSN after getting employed, lucky you!!!

I used to be a financial aid advisor. It has been awhile, so I'll try to give you some general information. For undergraduate studies (when I was a counselor) a person was allowed a maximum of $46,500 in Title IV student loans. Depending on how much of that you used in your first degree program you may have plenty left. You can visit this website http://www.nslds.ed.gov/nslds_SA/ to find out how much you have borrowed and what you have available. You'll need your FAFSA pin to access your information. I'm pretty sure that once you have already received a bachelors degree, you are no longer eligible for federal Pell grants.

Also, if you have maxed out on your federal student loans there are private student loans available as well. Ask your financial aid counselor at the college and they should be able to give you all of your options. If you do a little research before though you'll at least know where you stand financially before you get there.

I already have a BA as well, but am thinking that I'll have to get the AA from the community college, because of the money. I just started my first of three pre-reqs I need before I can apply to nursing school. Good luck to you!!!

Thanks to both of you for replying. :wink2: I will look into scholarships.com. And it helps to know where to go to see how much I still have available. :)

Good luck to both of you in your programs!!!
