570 loooong days

It sure is depressing....that's why i decided not to wait. I'm going to apply to Arizona Western College in Yuma. They don't have a wait list and they rank you by the number of pre-reqs you have completed and your pre-req gpa. After this semester I will be completely finished with ALL pre-reqs, not just the application requirements. So, I am pretty sure I will get in on the first application. I can't wait to get started!!

Is your GPA good enough to apply to one of the universities that are competitive? Have you considered getting a BSN? (maybe you have, I'm just asking) If accepted, you could start much sooner than if you wait for the community colleges, and then realistically, you'd proabably graduate around the same time...only with a BSN vs. an ADN.

That's what I would like to do, get a BSN. I can't really make up my mind on what i should do. I have two options:

1. Start the Associate program in Yuma in January 2010 and then get my bachelors thru NAU-Yuma while working as an RN at YRMC. I would have to pay for the Associate degree. And Yuma doesn't have many jobs for my husband to work at so it may take a while for him to find any job.

OR

2. Start my BSN pre-reqs while sitting on the wait list at MCCCD. (My gpa isn't strong enough to apply to ASU). But I can get a tribal scholarship to pay for a ASU, so whenever I get into MCCCD and finish a degree I will be a little bit closer to getting my BSN. And my husband has a decent paying job here in the Phoenix area.

I'm so frustrated because I can't make up my mind. I don't want to make the wrong decision and I sure don't want to waste time.

since you've already waitied a year and a half, shouldn't your turn come around soon? you'll might be called for next semester.

and i agree with you that with all these pre-req classes we only gen an ADN. i didnt have to take any below 101 level classes, but it's still taking me good two years to be able to apply for another 2 year nursing program:cry:.

my friends ask me, "so, when are you gonna be done? you've been in school for a while"

well, I decided to take an LPN route first because I didnt wanna waste my time, just waiting (at least, tha's how I feel)

I feel your frustration, but you seem to be almost "there." so, hang in there:up:

If you get a tribal scholarship, have you looked into how much that is, and considered some of the provate schools? They are much more expensive, but you go straight thru, there is generally no waiting list (or minimal), and if your scholarship is significant it just mihgt be the most timely option for you!!

GCU's BSN program has no waiting list and there is a scholarship program if you sign a contract with one of the hospitals up there (forget which one now). Maybe it's St. Joe's? It's worth looking in to.

I just applied after last semester :) I've been working on pre-req's for 3 years, between a divorce and having a baby it has taken a little bit more time than I would have liked. Unfortunately, I had been out of HS for quite a bit and only tested into pre-algebra so I had to take 3 Math classes at Pima just to get my Mat122 needed to get into the program. I would love to get a BSN, but on the other hand I know that a lot of the hospitals in the area will help pay for an RN-BSN. Plus, if I were to apply to the University of AZ then I have at least a year of just Spanish I have to take just to apply to their program. Currently, I have a 3.5 GPA after about 30 credit hours, so not too shabby! Thanks all for your support, it is very much appreciated, I can use all the encouragement I can get!

I didn't realize you were in Tucson. All the hospitals in Tucson participate in a sponsorship program with GCU's BSN program. They pay 100% of your tuition and books in return for a 3 year work commitment.

I too got tired of it and decided to go to excelsor. I know, Iknow, the credits won't transfer and I still have alot of clinicals to go through all the blocks. But hey those 570 loooooooooooong days go away! :wink2:

My tribal scholarship will only pay for a BSN, not associate level. And you know...I have not thought about GCU. That's Grand Canyon University, right? How do you know for sure there is no wait list??
