What is Ambulatory Care?

Hi all,

I'm a student going into a clinical placement in ambulatory care, and I need some help understanding what exactly Ambulatory Care is! Could any ACU nurses out there help me? How does the ACU nurses role differ from that of a nurse working on a surgery unit? What is it that you do differently? Is there anything you could tell a student going into this placement to make me less annoying/more helpful? What kinds of tasks/procedures/etc do you let a student assist with.

Any help would be awesome, thanks!

Go to www.aaacn.org which is the American Academy of Ambulatory Care Nurses. Great information site (AAACN core curriculum for ambulatory care nursing) and overall items that are of interest to ambulatory care nurses. They also have magazine NursingEconomics which covers a lot of information vital to ambulatory care nurses.
