Specialty Office Nursing

by KarenS

I've been an RN in a family practice office for 6 years and am burned out with the huge amount of patients that want appointments in an already overbooked schedule, several family members arriving for one family member's appt and expecting to be seen by doc too, huge volume of phone calls all day long and never leaving work on time after 9-10 hr days. Thinking of trying specialist's office where I can focus my energy. Any input would be appreciated.

I,too, thought working for a specialists would mean more money and less chaos. I was in for a surprise. It is just as nerve-frazzling as the pediatric and family practice clinics I have worked in. The few positives are that 1.our docs very rarely do admissions-99%consults 2.we don't make referrals and 3.we are able to focus on one system (although, that makes for a much smaller sample closet!)Good Luck!!
