Taking the certification exam next month. Already have the Core Curriculum and have the AAACN sample questions book on order. Any other study materials suggested? Would these be sufficient? I am experienced in adult ambulatory care with some peds, but am lacking much women's health, ambulatory surgery, etc.

Tried out two study guides on amazon and they were both ridiculously bad - one was a thin little book with questions I could have someone on the street answer correctly, the other one was a weird vanity press book that looked like it wasn't even for the same test. :)

I know specifics on the exam can't be discussed, just would like to know if what I have will be enough.

Good luck! I had considered taking that exam, but my ambulatory care experience is limited to women's health, so there's no way I would be able to pass. Hope it goes well for you!

Thanks Klone - I figured I'd give it a shot. My work will pay for it IF I pass. :) I have had SOME women's health, a decent amount of peds and a lot of adult. No real outpatient surgery stuff, tho. Just trying it once, too pricey to retake for no benefit.

I used the materials you ordered and passed the exam in April. The sample questions I found online were terrible, too, but the AAACN questions were good ones to practice. The test was more theoretical than I expected. You are asked to sign that you will not share test content with others or I would offer more help. Good luck to you.

That's ok, all I needed to know was if the materials I had would be enough and thanks for answering. :) The online sample questions range from silly easy to 'eh? you sure about that?'. :)

I passed!! I actually thought the sample questions and review book were not as helpful as I expected, but I did pass so all is good. :)

Congrats! I am taking a certification exam in a couple months (for inpatient obstetrics, even though I haven't worked inpatient in a few years) and I'm nervous.

Will you get a raise?

Congratulations! I thought those materials were helpful but found that there were things on the test that really were not in any book. They were things one really couldn't study and were more theoretical application.

Right, I think I could have passed without studying, as the few things I had no clue on were things I would have never thought to study. :p

And no, no raise. But work did pay for the test and partially for the study materials (total was above the education funds limit)..

I am planning to take Ambulatory Care Certification Examination. The core curriculum for ambulatory care nursing 3rd edition 2013 sounds old to me. Any information about better study materials is greatly appreciated.

I took the exam in August 2014 and that is the book I used. That is the newest edition. I also had the 2nd edition which did not look much different than the 3rd edition. Test follows material in the books closely although I did not do much studying. I just reviewed some chapters the day before I took the test. Test question look a lot like questions in the Ambulatory Care Nursing Review Question 2013, 4th Edition.
