I recently began managing a procedure unit in an outpatient facility. One of the first things I noticed was the practice of scheduling any procedure in any room regardless of what was before or after. For example, colonoscopy followed by bronchoscopy. When I talked to the staff about arranging the schedule so clean procedures didn't follow dirty procedures, they looked at me like I was nuts!
Am I reacting based on old information? Is it no longer standard practice to schedule procedures going from clean to dirty?
