New grad working in PACU w/PSRegister Today!
- by lkirchy Jul 11, '12Hi all,
So I just graduated in May and got my license in June. My plastic surgeon offered me a job in the PACU at the surgery center he does his surgeries at and I took the job. In the long run he wants to move me to OR and then start doing in office things like laser, ETC. I
am a little nervous because I have no experience at all but I am so excited about this job. I did my preceptorship(96 hours) in the MICU and CCU. Any advice? Should I read up on critical care books in case something happens to a patient post-op? Thank you!

I would become ACLS certified and read up as much as you can (pts. do have bad reactions to anesthesia, etc). You can also join dermatological/PACU nurse organizations. I assume that you will not be alone as the sole nurse to start off...right? I am sure that you will have some type of orientation. Take a deep breath, and stay excited. Good luck, and keep us posted!
