I need your help... looking for glucometer test strips

I have a couple of patients with diabetes who are indigent. I am able to get free glucometers but unable to find anyone willing to provide test strips.

We are trying to gain tight control and without the BS readings it is very difficult.

Does anyone out there know of an organization that provides this service??

I also have had your problem. I get free glucometers to give to patients from drug reps but there are only a few strips then they can't afford to purchase them. I have explored every avenue and if the patient isn't medicare-there is no help. Please keep me posted if you have any luck

This is a marketing ploy! Yes, the reps are more than willing to give patients the "free" glucometers, but they will not give out the strips because this is where they make all their money. I haven't been able to figure out a way to get low cost strips for patients either. Very frustrating!

I am the director of a non-profit program called MedBank that works as a liason between pharmaceutical companies and physicians to help patients apply for free medicaitons. We are saving our patients tons of money but are running up on the same problems with the test strip delimma. We are also in need of syringes for our diabetic patients. I have been looking for weeks to find patient assistance programs for these items and have come up empty handed. The closest I came was the Charles Ray III Diabetes Association: www.charlesray.g12.com/assistance.html . This seems to be a limited resource however. If anyone is sitll subscribed to this thread, let me know what you find out.

Abbott has a great patient assistance program that will provide a meter and strips but only a limited amount. Go to NeedyMeds.com and look for Abbott. You can print the app from there. Very easy. I'm looking for another program to use when patients have exhausted their limit with Abbott. If you know of any other program please let me know.

Abbott has quit donating the strips. Bayer used to but now it has teamed up with Xubex. Roche also used to do Accu-Check strips. Xubex is the cheapest place I have found to buy, but like the rest of you, I have found no others. I operate a non-profit organization that helps with free meds and this is a problem as well. Diabetes has become epidemic, especially among the indigent and I guess the glucometer companies were losing too much money. Shame too. They need the help.

The best source of help for indigent medications is www.needymeds.org. They also help with finding low cost clinics.

Walmart carries a line of diabetic testing supplies called "ReliOn" that many of my patients find affordable.

Yes. Wal-Mart does carry a good line of reasonable products. However, what I was referring to were the FREE programs for diabetic supplies for indigent and uninsured. Two yrs ago there were 5 programs that provided free strips now there are NONE. You can get free glucometers all over the place but no more free strips after the initial ones are used. Xubex.com carries strips cheaper than Wal-Mart and they are delivered to your door.

Bayer no longer has an association with Xubex; it is now an Abbott and Xubex partnership. Bayer has a program where you can get strips through a savings program but you must register online or call an 800 number. http://www.bayercontour.com/Meter-and-Test-Strip-Savings/ContourCHOICEProgram/Home

There are no longer any programs available to get free strips.
