Horrible, awful week

If I never have another week like the one I just did, it will be waaay too soon for me. I work in a very busy family practice and 4 of the 6 nurses on staff were off sick all last week. Two never even made it in all week and two came in really sick. I had my turn a couple of weeks ago so I was okay. Our work load is very heavy in the best of times, but this was almost unbearable.

Then, on Friday late afternoon, one of the docs threw a hissy fit and he and I ended up in an all out and out shouting match. I tried twice to placate him but he didn't stop, so I defended myself.

Anyway, this isn't the first time he's done that to me (and to others) so on Monday I will have a chat with the office administrator and my HN. Whether or not I go looking for another job depends on how they handle this dude. It's a shame really, because none of the other docs do that to the staff. Only him.

So sorry you had such a crappy week. Good Luck getting things worked out in the morning. Hope this week is better for you!

Just be calm document what you did and what you said before you go in .I once had a tizzy with a MD. MD wrote a bad order and I refused to follow through .I went in and had a talk with the hospitial .He was un-proffesional by yelling in front of the Pt's as well The doc ended up being let go for to many medical mishaps.

.Do you have staff that will be on your side on this .If so take there name as well Have your notes ready .When you go in.

Ahhh how about that weekend.. they certainly make me feel better

Has a little distance from Friday helped you to clarify what you want to say?

of course it needs said and I wish you the best

Does he have a habitual anger problem? Sounds like some counseling may be in order......

Let us know how things turn out

and I certainly hope your coworkers reuturn!!

No, he has a habitual "god" problem....ie he thinks he's lord above us all.

Seems typical of those very young docs IMO. You know it occurred to me that I started nursing when he was a snotty-nosed elementary school kid. :rotfl:

I'll let you know how things go.

Okay, here's the update on the problem doc. Seems he was there this AM complaining to the office admin and that he completely omitted the fact that I appologized. (yeah, I did...imagine that.) I told her that my beef is that he was very disrespectful and didn't treat me like the professional that I am. She agreed. She said that the next step should be getting us all in the same room together to talk it out. :uhoh3: I said fine...but he better not raise his voice at me.

So now we wait and see what happens.

how did it go laura??

hold fast to your strengths ... Docs like this can be so glib ..they sometimes fluster us out of our issues..

Well, yesterday I was at work and he came back into my office, closed the door and said "We have to talk." He then launched into a long monologue saying that he felt that he had to be aggressive with me because he found me to be arrogant at first. (I'm not and he even admitted that I'm not) In other words, he was trying to make me feel defensive....it didn't work. I let him finish then I told him that I don't have an issue with his requests. I told him that had he come to me calmly, all this would have been averted. Instead he came with fists flying. He wanted a fight, he got one. Anyway, he appologized and we "made up." And he was realy nice to me after that. A little later the office manager asked me if he had spoken to me, I said yes. She then informs me that she told him that I was thinking of filing a formal complaint. :chuckle He's done this before with other staff and not many people have complained. He picked a fight with the wrong person I guess.

I'm just glad it's over. There's already a lot of stress at work and I didn't need this. Over the last few months things have been spinning out of control in terms of work load and morale. All the departments are feeling it and it just seems to me that everyone is mad at us nurses....including the patients. I'm looking around for other options. If something better comes along, I'm gone.

Laura

sounds like it was difficult but good for you

hanging in and holding on to principles .... we have to look out for our patients and ourselves

Carry on the flame and light the way!!
