But I'm Pregnant . . . . .

Along the lines of the "But I have little kids . . . . " thread:

One of my co-workers announced her pregnancy this week, stating that she was no longer willing to work weekends or holidays because she's going to be a parent. She also has to have Christmas off because this is going to be her last child-free Christmas. Oh and by the way, she can't take care of anyone with VRE, MRSA, or any other type of isolation. "Yukky wounds" make her nauseous, so she can't take those patients -- in fact, wouldn't it be best to just have her do charge all the time?

We're a large unit and have 1 - 6 nurses pregnant at any given time. Plus there are those who can't travel to interventional radiology, take infected patients, etc. because they're TRYING to get pregnant.

The last nurse to have her baby had to sit in the chair her entire shift "because I'm pregnant," and had orientees to do everything for her. Not the role of I preceptor, I'm thinking!

What's the strangest/most irritating thing you've had a coworker demand because she's pregnant?

I would talk with your doctor about MRSA patients. I know in my hospital, we don't put them in isolation anymore and everyone cares for them. Good luck. As a case manager - are you doing the hands-on care?

my sis is an OB nurse. she has 3 kids. with each one of them, she was working when she went into labor and stayed with her soon to be mothers saying hey well get through this together!! she had one nurse that was pregnant and complained all the time and here is my poor sis working while in labor. they girl kept complaining throughout her pregnancy. my sis told her rather harshly while she herself was 8+ months, why don't we just get you a lazy boy recliner so you can put your feet up and rest poor dear. that girl was about 6 months and barely showing and my sister was waddling around trying not to knock things over with her stomach!!

Back before my day women carried the baby and plowed the lower 40. Sometimes minus the horse/donkey.

Tell'em to get over it, get moving and be glad their not wearing a saddle.

Dave, who finds that to be a lazy a$$ excuse.

AWESOME answer Dave!!! I love it!!! I worked with all my kids until I was 9 months pregnant. I did everything then I do now. I worked weekends and holidays-- the money is better too. And, if you have kids, you know you need that money!!

Thank you for your understanding and kind words. I will certainly speak with my doctor. God bless you.
Oh, damn, it's pregnant season where I work right now. There's one girl thatI swear who will go in the bathroom on delivery day, have the kid on the toilet, then make the kid stock the linen closets. The other ones are lazy as hell though. If you can't perform your job, go on leave. The rest of us count on you.

you better keep being a CNA with an uncaring response like that. All people are different and believe me I have come back from a coma in 1991 after a car accident with a drunk driver where my Fiance' was killed, I have had an anterior cervical microdiskectomy with fusion level C5-C6-C7 in 1998, and I am now pregnant at 37 years old and have had more than 3 episodes of bright red lady partsl bleeding and cramps, I am a fighter and I only need some help for my baby during this difficult time. I am going to work per diem for now, I certainly am not taking myself completely out !

bmc...I think one posting of the same thing is sufficent. I think your trying to respond to each poster but each time you do it shows up...so it looks like your posting the same thing over and over...well you are. That said good luck with your pregnancy and do what you need to do to get through it.:)

Thank you for your kind words and I am new to this site. I will no longer state my reply more than once. I was only trying to ensure that the correct people were responded to with my full story.

I agree that you should take care of yourself because you ARE having complications. The O.P., and other posters are speaking of pregnant nurses who are NOT having complications. I admire your grit and determination. But, I am sure you are not like the nurses who we are speaking of in this thread.
