24 caregiver needs

  1. 0 I am currently looking at our policy for requiring that the patient has a 24 hour caregiver at home. Ambulatory surgical patients at our facility are required to have one and if they arrive without someone arranged we are to notify the surgeon that usually says "oh its ok." Well, its not okay with me and I am looking for a standard. I say we can't treat patients differently and why should the facility or the surgeon have to take on this responsibility. What do you do? do you cancel the case? Have you made this mandatory? thanks, janel
