by zephyr9 Sep 3, '12I have been away from this site for a while, and I can see a lot of changes have been made. All I can wonder is, "Why?" If something's not broke, don't fix it. The site seems a lot less personal, more generic, less easily navigable, and I hate the female symbol icon for the users without pictures. (I associate it with lesbianism. Not that there is anything wrong with lesbianism, but--this is a forum for a profession.)
These are only the changes that are evident in the short time, maybe 15 minutes, I've been looking. Overall, though, it has a really different feel. I feel as though things that were here that made the site really great are now missing, even though I can't really say exactly what those things are. I don't think I will be able to find or recognize favorite contributors as it now is...it just feels not like someone moved around the furniture, but like they tore our walls and bricked over doorways, and now I just can't recognize anything.
I just think its really lost a lot of its flavor. I'm sad. I'll try to adjust my expectations to what is. I know there is is still something here that can't be found anywhere else.
Still--what's the deal. Do other people feel this way? I'm not able to comb through threads--I'd be interested to see the pertinent material, threads or announcements which explain the decisions to make these (numerous, dramatic) changes to a forum that was great exactly as it was, if someone could direct me.
Print and share with friends and family.
Compliments of allnurses.com.

How long have you been gone? I'm sorry you are not feeling comfortable with the changes, hopefully you will get re-acquainted and up to speed fast. We had a redesign/software upgrade several months ago.
However, we make incremental changes and small tweaks based on many factors as do most websites (facebook, google etc...). People always complain about change on every website, allnurses.com is no exception
Have you ever known a nurse that likes change? We are all creatures of habit.
Changes are never comfortable for many people, but we try and only make changes that we feel are good decisions, sometimes, we miss the mark, but we monitor everything we do and try and measure results. Many are technical needs, hardware needs, software upgrades, some are design choices, many are choices to speed up the site so the pages load faster, improve user experience, improve search engine status, etc... we do move the furniture (forums) and navigation around from time to time to organize new forums and cut down on the code on each page etc...
Keeping a website fast and usable is very important, especially to search engines. It is a necessity to keep current with all the web design rules and recommendations from top search engines like Google. If you don't stay current, you won't survive as a website. Adapt or die.
The more we stay current and relevant to search engines and mobile devices, the greater of a resource allnurses.com becomes for nurses worldwide. So, while we know that nobody likes change, it's a necessary evil that we must have.
If you have specific questions that we can help you find what you are looking for, please post them here and someone will try and help you. ThanksLast edit by brian on Sep 5, '12 - Sep 6, '12 by NRSKarenRNWe had quite a lively thread started in December 2011 that announced changes, had member feedback and our tweeks to meet majority members needs...Welcome to the new and improved AN!! while keeping up to date with bb software updates and modern search technology.

and the fact that you need to go back up the page to hit "what's new", instead of being able to go to that from the bottom, with no "back to the top" botton. - Sep 6, '12 by Spidey's momThere is a back to the top arrow that I didn't know about until recently - it's kind of small and in the line at the bottom that says "Like Reply Quote" . . . to the right of the enlarged quote marks. It's a little one of these: ^
It is in the last post on each thread.
One of the mods can probably take a snapshot of it and post it here.
I've gotten so used to the new format, I didn't remember the old until it someone gave me a look at it a few weeks back and I see it is offered on this thread as well.
I've been here since 2002 . . . lots of changes. I couldn't even tell you what it looked like when I first started. Stick around!

In addition to this, mod team is being more aggressive in editing thread titles to reflect post content.
So instead of " Need HELLLLLLLLLLLP" title, will change to " Need help understanding acid-base balance or Need help:Can lidocaine be used to reconstitute Rocephin for IM injection?"
Please keep providing site feedback so we can meet members needs + keep our site as #1 credible professional nursing website and community.Last edit by NRSKarenRN on Sep 7, '12 - Sep 7, '12 by mortenot on my screen, must be one of those things you have to pay for.Quote from Spidey's momThere is a back to the top arrow that I didn't know about until recently - it's kind of small and in the line at the bottom that says "Like Reply Quote" . . . to the right of the enlarged quote marks. I lost my recipe for Red Borscht here at home . . . . twice. I made sure I wrote it down and put it in my recipe file . ..
