Introductions

by brian Staff

Hi everyone! I just thought I'd start the new State forums off with an introduction thread. Please feel free to reply to this thread if you wish. Otherwise, feel free to start a new topic if you wish to discuss other topics that are local or state related. Enjoy!

Hi, another friend from Alaska! I am currently enrolled at the University of Alaska Anchorage, hope to be accepted to the program that starts in the fall. I was in a nursing program before in Oregon but had to pull out, my husband is in the army and we moved, then had a baby, then teenagers....anyhoo...I am finishing this time not matter what! I have 5 kids ages 3-18, busy with church responsibilites, family and school. I love to fish, camp, backpack, sew, read (for fun....how long has that been?) and spend time with the kids. I love Alaska but don't know if I will stay here after I am done with school...anyone else out there from Alaska?

Michelle

Hello Michelle, I'm an AF RN, who will be moving to Alaska with my husband who is also active duty. I read your message about going to University of Alaska to become a nurse. I am intersted in doing my masters, possibly FNP during our 3-4 year tour down there. Is the Univ. Alaska the only University nearby Elmendorf/Anchorage area that offer graduate degrees for nurses? Would you happen to know when the new schedule for spring 2004 might be posted? How is it living in Alaska?

Hope to hear from you soon!,

Lynn

The University of Alaska Anchorage is the only university with a masters program in the state. The nice thing is you can do online work. Go to the university web site and it will help. Of course you will in Anchorage and be able to utilize the campus. I am a UAA grad of 1990 and I did most of my studies with audioconferencing and online.

I see that no one has posted on here for about 3 years but I decided to still go for it. I was born and raised in the great AK, in Juneau specifically, now studying to be an RN in SoCal. I miss Alaska, it is such a beautiful place. Y'all need to get the word out to the other AK nurses about this site! It's great for communicating and inqueries.

Well I live in Anchorage - moved back here about 4 years ago from the South. Born and raised up here - some days I love it and some days I hate it. Anyone out there interested in talking. Currently I am pursing my BSN degree with Indiana State Univeristy through there Distance Education Program.
