will relocate to Montgomery AL and is concerned....

U.S.A. Alabama

Hi! I hold an active RN license from New Mexico and is now processing for license endorsement to Alabama. My husband will be stationed in Montgomery, AL so we will have to move by October of this year. By saying that, I was wondering on how RN employment is in Montgomery? I was Medical/Surgical RN in my home country for 3 years and 7 months until 2008, after which I moved to Canada on January of 2009 and worked as a LPN for more than a year. I recently moved to Tucson, AZ 4 months ago. I was just prepping myself, submitting applications to medical facilities here when we got the news. And now, I can't deny that I am a bit concerned. I do not know anyone from Alabama so I was wondering if you can help me out. Can anyone give me an idea of how job openings are in Montgomery, will be difficult to land a position? Insight on how or where to start looking for a RN position there? I do not mind working at a nursing/respite/hospice home initially. Ideas please.... This will be greatly appreciated! :nurse: Have a great day everyone!

HI, You might try the VA Medical center in Montgomery, or Baptist Hospital. THe Va might be my first choice though because as long as you have an Active License you do not have to get an Alabama license. At least that is what I have been told. Hope this helps.

There are penlty of great jobs in AL for nurses. Shouldn"t be too difficult finding one, but if you have trouble let me know, I can get you some of my resources. :)

Correct-Any valid state license will allow you to practice at any VA facility...

I would defienetly check into Baptist Hospital in Montgomery. They have 2 branches...Baptist South and Baptist East. A guy I graduated with was just hired on at Baptist South in the ER last month. They were hiring plenty of new grads then so I don't why anyone with experience would have a problem! Good luck!!

Hey everyone! Thanks for the replies! Finaly I have gotten responses after quite a long wait. :) I am currently using my new and second account since after not being on here for a while I have forgotten my password. and the system has been cruel not letting me retrieve and edit my profile. I did stop checking my message board since nobody was responding to my post, but voila, you responded. Thanks guys! Baptist hospitals and the VA is actually on my list of medical facilities where I plan to apply. Right now I'm in the process of obtaining a CES Full Course by Course Report from CGFNS since it is a requirement for license endorsement. I am worried though that I might not be able to reactivate my New Mexico (compact) license after the endorsement. :( What if we move to another state due to another military order? So I'm gonna have to ask New Mexico BON about that. Im worried, this hasn't been an easy process but I hope everything will work out well...

Hi! Thanks for the info. Yes the VA is definitely one of my top choices. I checked their website and it tells me to call the local number in Montgomery so I will be doing that soon. That will really be nice if I can keep my compact RN license you know in case we get orders to move somewhere in the future. The license endorsement is one tough process especialy for internationally eductaed nurses .

Hi! I will surely try my luck with the BAptist Health facilities. I hope their hiring process won't be a difficult one. When did you graduate by the way? :) And are you working now? You''re classmate was lucky to have gotten a job right away. My friend from California who is a new grad has been waiting for almost 6 months now and still haven't received any job offer from the places where he applied. Maybe because there are a lot of RNs in Cali already so competition is tough. Hopefuly there will be many jobs for RNs in Montgomery.

Im back guys. Our relocation is moving close! 2 more weeks... And Im getting really antsy. Does anyone here knows what the salary range for RNs in Montgomery area is? I have been to many RN job interviews and offers here in Tucson AZ (which I apparently turned down due to the upcoming move to AL) and I notice that they ask how much I was wanting as salary per hour. Since I know some RN people here I gave the range of what they were getting here. I dont know anyone from Alabama and searching for it in google gives me different answers. I had 3 years RN experience outside of the US and 1 year LPN experience in Canada. It will be very helpful if Alabama RNs can give me an idea of the salary range specificaly Montgomery if any one knows. It will be very helpful! Thank you very much!:nurse:
