What did you think?

I thought we would finding out much more details about the program itself. You know like which campus our 1st semester classes would be on, etc. I also thought St Vincent's would talk to us a little more than the did. I did however about fall asleep listening to the Mosby guy.

Anyway, would love to hear other's impressions.

Hello,

What all did they go over? I have to go on tomorrow for the Full time OR. on the Shelby Campus.

Thanks,

I think that the reason things were kind of vague is because they want to get an idea as to where the majority of the class lives in relation to the campuses to decide where the classes will be held to be more flexible and accomodating for the students. I do wish the St. Vincent's people could have given us a better idea as to how the clinical will be held. I'm guessing they expect a lot of people won't be there by the 2nd term so they'll wait until then since there aren't any clinicals until then anyway. What did you think about that Evolve program (not the presentation of it)? I thought it was pretty cool. Pro's - quick access to information in texts and other resources, highlighting, cross-referencing, and ability to add and make notes for studying, and not having to lug all those darn books around if you use a laptop/notebook. Con's - All the texts have to be bought new in the bundle/package which will definately cost more, limited only to Mosby publications, and I don't know if it would be worth it anyhow if you were not going to use it on a laptop/notebook which I don't have at this time.:typing Soooo......what are your thoughts...lol. I haven't actually had the chance to check out the Evolve website yet so all that was just what I could remember off the top of my head. Also, what the heck do these uniforms look like?

I decided against the Evolve after checking out the website. I have boughta ll my books brand new and it only cost me $220. I figure I know how to use an index to save $400 ! Even though I did buy a laptop last night. Good sales going on right now! The St. Vincents person must have talked before 5:30. I got there, at 5:25 and they had already started - I hope classes dont do that too! Jeez.

I'm debating on getting a laptop or a pda not sure which yet. Everything is so freaking expensive. Where did you get your laptop from?

Where are you hoping for our classes to be held...the main or shelby campus?

I got it from best buy. I got the Gateway for $599. They also have a Dell for $499. I went for the gateway for the little extra speed. Those sales are until Saturday - check out their website. They also have MS office/student for $99.

I prefer the main campus because I live 10 minutes from there.

I like Gateway also. My desktop is a Gateway and its been great. I know everyone has a story but all the Dell's I've had experiences with and others I know that have had a Dell have had all kinds of problems with them. The one I use at work has been a real pain in the *** also. Their laptops might be another story though. I guess I'll prob be doing some shopping this weekand.

I too have decided not to buy the bundle with the Evolve Select or whatever it was called. I hope I'm not making a mistake - we'll see I guess. I do have a laptop but I'm not currently planning on bringing it to class - are you guys? Also, do you guys remember what proficiency we have to exhibit for our dosage calculations? I can't remember now if she said 80 or 90%. I'm so ready for my calculation text to get here so I can start working on it. Math is SOOOOOO not my subject.

Are there any current nursing students out there who can comment on this? Is it worth it to pay the extra money for the CD? Also, what do you see more of in class, do most students work with there laptops or the actual books?

I did not go that way myself. I also did not buy my book at the campus book store ( I saved ALOT of money ) There really is no need for a laptop either. You will get packets, powerpoints that you will have to print and bring to class and fill in. You will be doing ALOT of reading. I would however suggest a recorder either tape or digital so that you can have your lectures on tape. Many of my classmates do tape lecture. Hope this helps!
