Faulkner state community college nursing point totals?

U.S.A. Alabama

Published

I am a pre nursing student at faulkner state community college. I plan to apply for fall but probably will not have enough pre reqs done yet, I will be short 3 classes when I apply but will be finished with them after summer semester. I would like some former or current students that have applied or been accepted to post their point totals so I can get an idea of the range they may accept? Any info on the program would also be helpful, and does it take every student 5 smesters to complete? Can you take more classes if your able to do it or does everybody have to work at the same speed, like the summer only has one class to take accourding to their nursing application curriculum? I'm asking because I have a full scholarship until Dec. 2015 and I have to take a minimum credit hours and if I dont graduate by Dec 2015 then I will have to pay for it. thanks and any other comments about faulkner, the instructers, the program, job outlook for adn rn's or anything would be helpful.

So you haven't missed the application deadline for the fall program yet? I know most colleges are either making decisions or already have sent out acceptance letters for fall 2014. I would check into that. Plus are any of the prereq classes you have left needed for the points? I'm thinking you may have to wait until fall to apply for the spring 2015 program. An ADN degree from a community college generally takes about 3 years to complete so it looks like you are going to have to pay for some of it. Also, check the hospital websites in your area and see what they are hiring. That is the only way you will know whether or not they still hire ADNs.

The deadline isn't until the first week of June, I don't remember the exact date. But I do have to have those classes for points, I have heard of people with as little 160,168 points getting in. But I don't know, I guess it's all based on the competition each semester.

It does. My school also does a points system. I had a 168. From what I hear, it's one of the higher scores but I still worry about it. I worry that lots of other people did better than me on the Teas and I won't get in. It's just a big waiting game.

Mine is out of a possible 251 points, what's your max possible points? Like my a&p 1 class counts as 30 points, what is each one of your classes and teas worth?

The fall semester is harder to get into because they take half lpns & half rns where the spring semester is only rns. Typical point cut off for the fall is in the 170s & spring in the 140s. You have to follow their semester schedules. No fast tracking or halftime. What classes are you missing for the extra points & have you taken your teas?

When I was accepted I had 183 points without my A&P 2 class. Fall usually requires higher point totals just based on the number of students they take. It's highly competitive but that doesn't mean you shouldn't try. You just never know. I graduated last summer and I can tell you that it's a tough program but you will be prepared for NCLEX and to work as a new nurse. The area hospitals usually hire FSCC students over other schools, even USA just because of their reputation for turning out knowledgable nurses. The instructors expect a lot, as they should, but they truly do have your best interest at heart even though it won't feel that way at times. You have to stick to their curriculum but in the nursing program, you are still considered full time in the summer as far as financial aid and scholarships go. That's my understanding at least. After graduating during a summer semester I can tell you, that's a rough semester. But, it's all worth it in the end. Just do yourself and favor and stay away from those who are negative and always complaining about something. Don't get behind and find 3 or 4 close friends to create a study group and you will be just fine. Good luck to you.

That's so good to know! Im applying for the fall as well with 187pts. I've been freaking out a little if it would deff be enough.

Well it's hard to know for definite because it will depend on how many apply and what point totals they have. But, I think that's a pretty good total and will hopefully increase your chances. I guess it's bad that I can't remember for sure but I think I started in the Spring. I know for a fact I graduated after a Summer term because it was my hardest semester I had by far. I was on the Bay Minette campus. Good luck to you. I hope you get in this Fall and get started toward your new career.

I applied for the Fall semester, as well, and I am anxiously awaiting to hear from the department. I haven't started compulsively checking my mail, just yet... Lol! I am currently taking my A&P II class, which is the last pre-req that I lack. I have 192 points, so far. If I don't get accepted for the Fall semester, I will apply for the Spring, with all of my courses completed, so that should give me a boost to my points. I have 126 points for my TEASV and A's in my A&P I and my Micro classes. I hope I do as well in my A&P II as I did in the others!

Good Luck to all who applied! :)

I would like to hear more about the RN hiring status, as well. I've heard 'murmurs' that employers are going to stop hiring RNs and only hire BSNs... That would be a game-changer, for sure!

Songbird-Have you gotten your letter yet? It looks like we both were accepted! :) super excited for orientation
