Bevill State Nursing Program... food for thought

U.S.A. Alabama

This is being posted for anybody that is considering the Bevill State Nursing program. I have heard lots of good things about the program from students that were there in the past. This is being posted as an up to date status on the program. In the past 2 weeks I have talked to two of the people in my class, 5th semester, that are having trouble doing their preceptorship. The first student was assigned to a nurse that has been off work on medical leave for a couple of months. I assumed the school would call the nurse to tell them who to expect as a precepting student this semester, not let the student try to locate the nurse and find out she is not available. The other student found out her precepting nurse had been "double booked". The school had assigned two students to her. The second student may be put in a postion where she will have to do her preceptorship during the summer, and graduate a semester after the rest of her class. Between the Sumiton and Jasper campuses, I am fairly certain these are not the only two with major problems, just all I know of personally.

Nursing school is stressful enough when the staff is doing their jobs. This is rediculous! I am just thankful I am not having problems with my precept.

I really hate that. School is frustrating enough and too expensive for the students to have to make sure the staff is doing their jobs. It really bugs me when someone that has never attended college before talks about how great Bevill is. Bevill is definately not the norm for colleges. Just like Jeff St's math dept is not the norm for college level math classes. Jeff St prides themselves in being the hardest math program, on the Jr. College level. Getting a C a Jeff St rather than an A or B at another school can really make the difference in your gpa when applying to a program at the Univ level. They could not care less where you took your classes, they just look at your GPA.

I have been accepted into Bevill's ADN program for the fall semester. From what I have heard from students that have attended for several semesters, Bevill is taking steps to improve their NCLEX scores. They realized they were not covering some important information that was on the NCLEX, so they have taken steps to change that. I know several people that have graduated from Bevill, some RN and some LPN, and they've had no problems passing the NCLEX or finding jobs. I can't wait for fall semester to begin!:yeah:

Congrats on your acceptance. As far as finding jobs go..... My class graduated in May and so far less than 1/4 of my class has been hired. Luckily I had some inside pull to get on at UAB. Everybody else is putting in applications for every position that they can find and still no luck. One guy is considering going back to driving a truck because his family is going broke with him not working.

Jgroves02 when did you find out you where accepted?

I received my acceptance letter June 9th for the Jasper campus. They mailed out all the letters on June 7th or 8th. They send out rejection letters if you don't get in, and they were sent out at the same time.

Thanks, I havent recieved anything yet! I called and she said i was on the waiting list for transfer students.

This thread is really old, but it's still one of my favorites. It deserves to be bumped with new comments added. Anyone else have an opinion about Bevill State's Nursing Program?

This thread is pretty old, but I haven't had any luck finding anything more recent. Just wondering if anybody knows about when we might hear about acceptance for 2013?

I placed "advanced" on TEAS-V & have a 3.76 GPA. Considering the vast accomplishments of other applicants, I'm pretty worried about getting in. If anybody else out there is going for Bevill, or has any advice, all comments are greatly appreciated!! The wait is such a struggle! :-)

Hello! Has anyone applied to Bevill for the spring semester nursing program 2017? I would be a transfer student and wanted to know if the factor in medical experience and certifications already achieved (phlebotomy, cna, heart saver etc.)
